Fuel Power diesel additive?

Airdog Pressure?

Hi to all on this site. I am trying to find out if there is anything that I should be concerned with the installation of an Airdog. How do you prime the system, ans get the truck started after all is complete? What is the best way to get the air out? I've never cracked any of the injetor lines before, so I would not do it if I do not have to. I plan to run the fuel through the factory fuel filter housing too. I guess the Airdog will be trigered just as the OEM lift pump, as the supplied harness connects to the ECM.

Thanks in advance

Ilian

The directions will tell you to just unscrew the the water-separator filter only and fill it full of fuel and screw it back up and it will pick up prime easily with that procedure. I also put the fuel hose into a clean container where it connects to the VP44 and I bumped the starter without starting the engine to cycle the pump for 30 seconds to purge the lines after the install. I also ran my lines through the stock filter but you will need a couple extra fittings for that. I had the Vulcan big line kit already so I was set. I just got tired of the factory lift pump altogether. The AirDog has worked perfect for me and I'm very happy with it.

Regards, Mike.

Thanks Mike. I appreciate your help. It says to fill the water separator with clean fuel. The fuel filter is not supposed to be filled up with fuel, right? I also have the Vulcan Big Line kit, so I have the fittings. Where do you monitor your fuel pressure?

I don't recall doing anything special to prime, just followed the directions. After filter changes, I just start it up, doesn't cough or anything. I've had the Airdog about two years, good pressure all the time and quiet too.

Yes you're right, just fill the water separator only, not the fuel filter. The water separator is on the suction side of the pump and it will prime quickly. I monitor the fuel pressure at the fitting going into the VP44. You don't need to crack any injection lines for bleeding either, just get the air out of the new fuel lines to the VP44.

I hope this helps, Mike.

Ilian,

Why didnt you call me

If you have any other

Call me.

David :D

Why would you want to run the 1/2" lines into a huge restriction like the factory filter housing? The AirDog has both fuel filter and water seperator. I don't see a need to use the original filter. I did keep my original fuel system on the truck in case of and emergency and the AirDog doesn't work. I would like to add the Vulcan drawstraw and it would have huge lines front to back.

Why

Can you say heater :-laf :-laf :-laf

The OEM factory filter housing has A built in heater in it :D :D

Why, the VP is already getting too hot now running heated fuel through it. It doesn't seem to be necessary. With winterized fuel there shouldn't be a problem for most of us in the lower 48. On a side note that the stock filter does have that AirDog doesn't is the WIF sensor. Has anyone found a way to add one to the AirDog?

Thanks David, thanks Rob.

David, I'm really glad I talked to you, as always, you've got a ton of info for anyone to learn. And yes, the light on the Airdog is optional now. I'm looking at the set-up and getting everything I need for installation of the kit.

I run a FASS unheated and have been to -25*F without any problems by simply running fuel additive.

As far as the WIF sensor... yep, just built one for my truck, but it involved running a second tank. I guess if you were handy, you could plumb it between the OE tank and the pump since it isn't really a restriction. I built mine out of 4" PVC Pipe.

Well, my LP died today, so I am looking at this too. .

I think I would keep the stock canister, not for the wif light, which may not work without the stock filter trapping the water in place, but for the heater.

We are already having a bunch of fuel problems in MN, has barely touched zero.

It will be -15 by sunday, and Koch has pulled it's winter diesel off the market.

Told me I am running Gold, which is the summer fuel.

I'll take that heater.
