Off Roading Airing down tires

With my 98 TJ I would air down the tires to about 12-15 PSI. What pressures have you aired down to with the stock tires in your pickups?

stock tires, the E rate tires, I have aired them down to 20-25 when I was in soft mud. Worked good.



Most big tires and the weight of our trucks require us to keep a little more air in them. I would say no less than 20 psi on the rear and 25 on the front. ,

At the dunes I've gone as low as 18 in the front and 15 in the rear with my 285/75/16 BFG AT KO's.

As for airing up, I use a 50 cu ft nitrogen tank and inert gas regulator with a quick disconnect fitting. That way I can use it to air up or to drive air tools.

a little more info on the tank please... how long will 50 cu ft. last in use for all your needs ?. . Kit Mfg ? other than airing up what do you use it for / how long will it last with air hammer or air ratchet use and airing up?... ect. ect.

I got the 50 cu ft nitrogen tank from Airgas. You buy the tank full for about $12O. Refills or exchanges of an empty tank are about $15. The two stage CGA 580 regulator has a 4000 PSI max primary pressure gauge (to measure tank pressure) and a 600 PSI max secondary pressure (to set the pressure going to the tires or air tools). I had to take off the outlet fitting that came with the regulator and get an adapter fitting to attach the quick disconnect. Regulators with a 200 PSI max secondary are available on line for around $65. This would be a better choice than mine since there is no possibility of rupturing your air hose if someone messes with the regulator. I would also suggest that you pick up a 10 way combination wrench, about $10, to take on and off the regulator. The size of the nut on the regulator is 1-1/8". How long does it last? I'm still on my first tank. A guy that I know is a mechanic for local off road racing crew. He says that theirs lasts the whole weekend in the chase truck. I have some pictures of my setup.
