Airing up a Dually

What is the best way to air up a dually without taking off the tires? I have bought valve extentions, but I can't get them to work, what is the secret? Product name, part numbers? I have the truck type air gauge and tool to fill the tire with?

I had a set of extenders and they worked great! However I run plain steele wheels now so I opted not to put them back on. Without the simulators it is a lil easier but marginaly.

You need a tire gauge and air chuck that is used on semis. #ad
There are 2 ends on it. One for the inside, and one for the outside tire. Putting extentions on the inside and taking the simulators off is almost a must (at least for me, can't get hand in between the duals).



If you use extentions, I would suggest metal valve stems if you ever go off the road. Too easy to tear one off or other-wise damage it. Been there done that (no extentions either ).

I now have the metal valve stems, and even with the extenders no tool gets in at the correct angle. The rubber stems that where OEM worked better for me because they flexed just enough to get the gauge / air fill tool on.

I use a dually air chuck and tire gauge, and even then I did some Dremel work to get a little more clearance where the chuck goes over the valve stems. Also, on the outer wheel, I use the non-pressurized valve stem extenders like those used on cars with full wheel covers. They are about 2" long and make it a lot easier to reach. I use a length of 1/2" rubber hose to remove and install the valve caps on the inner wheels.



I had the braided metal valve stem extenders on my previous dually. They worked OK, but not really any easier than what I'm doing on my current truck as described above.

I have braided extenders (female to tire & Male sticking out) - They are about 8" - 10" long. I have them fastened to my center cap on a tiny little right angle bracket. They work fine. I'll try to track down where I got them..... I think they were from Neeper or some other custom rim supplier. (They also hold the center cap to the truck when it cracks off!! heheheee--I can guarantee that)

I've never used them, my Alcoas have larger hand holes and its easier to reach the inners. I know there have been people who have had problems with the extenders leaking or breaking, and I've been told it effects balance. Not sure about any of that.

IF you run extenders make SURE they are braided not just rubber. We have lost 2 tires on our RV before from failed rubber line extenders.
