I will be leaving my truck at the airport for about a week and a half. The temps are 20f during the day and 5f over night. What can I do to help (make) it start. I have had both cold weather TSB's done (the high idle has never worked). I really dont want to use the 911 forum:p I seriously doubt there will be a place to plug it in, and I would rather not use the ether bunny:D

If it is real cold,

when the wait to start light goes out turn the key off and back on again this will cycle the heaters again. Note: this will draw the battery down so make sure to run it long enough to recarge them.

You might cruise the lot a bit - especially if you get below ground parking. There might just be a plug-in somewhere. A buddy of mine left his Ram last year at the Tulsa airport for over a week. He was quite surprised to find a plug-in when he got there, so he used it, but figured his extension cord would be missing upon return. What a surprise to find his truck still plugged in when he returned, warm and ready to go! Who knows? Ya just might get lucky!

Don't use Ether!

Don't use ether with a grid heater!! There is a very high likelyhood that you will ignite the ether in the intake mainifold [the grid heater glows red hot!]. I certainly wouldn't want that to happen to my truck!!.

I've had to start Cummins Ram trucks many times when they are cold-soaked and below zero F. Just cycle the 'wait to start' light twice and crank 'er up! It may run rough for a few minutes, and if it is really cold out [-10F and less], may not run well above an idle for a few minutes.

Try to find an outlet to park near, that will be the best for your truck, really cold starts are rough on the engine. 5w-30 synthetic oil will help too.

Wear your woolies!! :D :D Greg L

jtisdale, what airport are you leaving it at? If you are leaving at Mitchell PM me for a phone number, then at least if it won't start you can get some help. I would be happy to come to the airport and help anyway I can. I have started mine after sitting for several days at 5-10 degrees and had no problems only cycling the heaters once. I really do not think you will have a problem. I use the power service supplement fuel treatment and it seems to help cold starts. I am in WI as well and so far have not plugged the truck in this year, it sits outside and circumstances have kept me from plugging it in. It starts every time on time.
