Towing TT with factory receiver

BreakSmart??

We are going to take the plunge and order an 24k air safe fifth wheel hitch. My only concern after reading the information is that since we tow a 31' New Horizon, aprox 13,700 lb gross this hitch is obviously overkill. However it is basically the same price as the 20k hitch and are there any dissadvantages to going all the way.

You will have the satisfaction of knowing that your trailer can be loaded with lead ingots and still be towed without breaking your hitch :-laf. To be serious, it's never a problem to have something that's stronger than you need.

Thats what I was hoping. My concern was that it may be stiff seeing that its was rated that high but with air I guess it auto adjusts to the weight.

That for the reply.

Ron,

Have you used the air safe hitch? I am shopping for our 1st 5th wheel and am interested in the air safe hitch? I have read about them on their site bit do not know anyone that has used them.

Are they worth the price?

Do they help the drive comfort of the truck?

Why did you choose the air safe hitch?

Thanks, Jeff

Can't give you any first hand knowledge yet but those we talked to that have them would not haul with anything else.

Ours has just been ordered now. After overlooking the information and reviewing the posts we have deceided that the cost is a worthwhile investment for the sake of the truck suspension as well as the fifth wheel itself.

We were in Nflnd over the summer and after spending much time on rough roads, losing all glass articals in the rig, even those wrapped in bubble wrap, and cringing over several jolts we deceided that if a better method of towing was available we would look into it for our comfort as well as the increased safety for rig and truck.

Hope to have the hitch installed by the end of the month and we will be back on the road heading south in November.

We have now towed from Montreal to Corpis Chriti, about 2000 miles. I am very pleased with the ride. It is 100% smoother as advertised. Wish I had bought it earlier. We have certainly found that the trailer also bounces much less as evidenced by items staying on counters where we forgot to put them away.

The only small critic is with the installation instructions not being perfectly clear. We had two bolts loosen on the trip and after thinking about it I relize that lock washers should have been used more effectively. I picked up some red loctite and redid the critical areas. So much for that. No further loosening anywhere.

I have an easyrider hitch and it works wonders. I also have one of the bumper pull hitch's. That is how much difference they make.

I have used the TrailerSaver Air Hitch for the past 4 years. It has worked perfectly. The Binkley-Holland head does not have an equal for safe and easy operation. I would not tow without an air hitch again!
