My owners manual says I need to have the fluid changed on my transmission at 30K. The dealer looked my trucks maintenance schedule by using the vin number and there is no mention of it at 30k. Has the recommendation been changed?

In the regular manual, the 68RFE and other trannys than Aisin appear to follow 60K Miles.

If you have Aisin, change fluid at 30K and fluid/filter at 60K intervals.

Hope this helps.

Cheers, Ron

crazy question, but what does that involve?
As I recall, the aisin has a drain plug, so to just do a drain and fill it would be pretty easy.
Next time when it is filter time, then it gets more difficult and sort of messy.

It’s VERY SIMPLE.

Get 9 quarts. Check fluid level before starting to confirm it’s on the full mark. Pop drain plug, let it drain for a hour or so. Put drain plug in. Now measure exactly how much you drained out. Fill with new fluid with same amount removed.

AND... I drain all fluids at driving temps, so take her out get temps all up, pull into level area, place the drain pana and open the plug. I use an oil drain pan placed on a washing machine pan. I let her drain all night and next day, when all is cool, button up. Most recommend measuring what you drain, and I'm not saying that ain't da I TRIED TO BY-PASS THE CUSSING FILTER, but I just added the amount listed in OM for wet fill, buttoned up, checked cold, drover her up to operating temps, checked her hot, and all was good in Pleasantville.

Cheers and have fun, Ron

I got so drenched on the fuel filter change outs I swore I would never be under that truck again. But the big question is , has there been an update on the recommended fluid change out? What is a good recommended oil ? ( didn't realize there was a plug)

Why not measure? It's simple and you don't have to keep adding to get it right?

No brainer IMHO.

Goes without saying but I will say it, check fluid level when at operating temp and drain at operating temp.

At 30k I added exactly 8 quarts.

AISIN has a plug, makes it easy to either drain pan only or drain then remove pan and then change filter. Very little mess if any.

I use AMZ/OIL Signature Series ATF.

Why not measure?

Because I don’t measure any fluid I drain, I simply read the specs for fluid requirement and check the level according to the manual. I’ve never see any procedure that recommends measuring fluid drained on a service.

Do you measure your engine oil, coolant, gear lube, etc for a service?

8 quarts seems high. Most of the threads I’ve read use around 7.2 to get back to the proper range.

7.2 worked eggs-actly on da mark. 8 might work fer Ron cuz I think he disconnects the transmission line and gets more out. I think the change interval might be too frequent as I missed the 30K miles fluid change on my 09 4500 and changed at 60K miles. Worried, I asked dealer to check for material in the pan and condition of the fluid. Absolutely no problems.

Anhoo, to each his own, Me and Stelantis happy with a partial fluid change:eek::D:cool:.

IMO 30K is too frequent.

My 03 4Runner has an Aisin that uses the same spec fluid, and that fluid is good for life. That’s a major difference in service intervals. Needless to say, I’ve changed the 4Runner fluid a few times.

As you’ve stated before....the 4-Runner will NEVER see GCW’s these trucks will see, either.

At this point.....all I can interject is that the ASRC fluid and the 3309 work at these intervals, +/- 5k variances, as evidenced by the longevity and lack of repairs I’ve encountered with my previous 2014 RAM 3500 sold at 362k miles and my current 2018 RAM 4500 at 346k miles, and they’ve had some decent workouts.

Correct, but it also doesn't have near the cooling system. Heat is what kills fluid, and the AS69RC runs cooler than the A340F.

Simply put, there has to be some middle ground between never and 30K miles.
