Search is not my friend l I know this has been discussed before but. Anyway it’s very noticeable when you are hard on the throttle level ground empty. I know this is not a race truck but way different hook up than a DDT 89 percent torque converter. Normal driving it’s not so noticeable and with a load or pulling something heavy I’m sure it’s a bit different also. Or up steep grades. At any rate I suppose that it is defueling to save the violent hook up that the DDT had and or to save the transmission etc and keep you from spilling your beer right. Your thoughts ?

I think some folks might think something is wrong in the transmission or engine as it feels like it falling flat on its face then comes back on gang busters later. Truck is meant to pull and haul not drag race with . I need to try to drive it normal. I probably really need a hellcat hemi. Need for speed

That is why I have an 06 Mustang GT, 6sp manual.

My son’s. We had so many problems with it when he got it I named it Crazy Horse…

On 16 HO I had if you floor it, it makes it worse. I found if you ease into the pedal it will accelerate almost normally but when you floor it from a stop, it definitely defuels to the point you don't want to do it in traffic. I think Banks makes a pedal manager that is suppose to reduce this, I just got use to it and it became a non issue except at the dragstrip where a kid in a silver mustang would whip my a$$ everytime...

It's called dead pedal, if you jam the pedal to the floor is lays down flat. Some worst than others. It is a drive style issue. Once you learn to roll into the throttle it becomes a non issue.

They have to reduce torque in the lower gears or you will damage the drivetrain. Unlimited torque in 1st gear would be 4030 lb/ft to the rear axle. The driveshaft, u-joints, and axle are not large enough to handle that, so they torque manage in lower gears.

I don’t run TH empty and don’t have what I imagine dead pedal is.

Dads 17 HO drives the same as my 18.

I do tow haul empty. And exhaust brake. I like how it shifts in th. And x braking should maybe not do th anymore. I will test it out

I find that about 3/4 throttle is about the best acceleration in the lower gears. Reminds me of driving a big carb gasser where you needed to stay out of the secondaries until rolling 4k+ rpm.

We’ll tow haul is fun but you are right about the fuel consumption. In my feeble mind I was trying to keep the rpm’s up and work the engine a bit more to break it in. Otherwise the big diesel is hardly working at all. Idling almost. I thought idling and. lugging was a bit bad also. I’m used to hard up shifts and downshifts after the old 89 percent DTT torque converter. Not soft shifting etc The two trucks are worlds apart. Takes some getting used to

If you like firm shifts, acceleration on demand and the EB to actually work run TH. Totally personal choice.

On my drive to work TH nets approx 1 mph lower, and it’s not even a drive where there is lots of shifting it’s just holding gears longer, too long.

The 6.7 with a VGT is hard to compare to a 5.9 without a VGT. It’s a lower rpm motor. I haven’t found it to ever lug itself, but it does run low rpms as programmed.

Freeway driving it’s not going to make a difference. Driving under 50 will net better mpg with TH off.

TH off and EB on brakes are not going to last near as long as both on.

so trade off both ways.

There is no one-size fits all.
And also these new truck drive very different from your '15 MY.
But it is true that they have sometimes a lag in it that can drive one nuts, stomp on it and nothing really happens for a second or two. Annoying.
