In the latest TDR issue it was suggested to clean the Air Intake Temperature Sensor. Is it easy to remove? Will any fluids leak out when this unit is removed? Does the O-Ring need to be replaced? If so, what size is needed?

Thanks for the response.

Paul

Never heard of cleaning it before, in fact don't know why it would get dirty, the only thing flowing past it is filtered air.

 I read it wrong. Still trying to understand new vehicle and terminology associated with the diesel. EGTs, moore boost, turbo spool-up? Still confusing, but education is improving.

Sorry about that!

Paul

From what I have read here if you use K & N air filter and over oil can get oil on it. Supposedly valve can allow exahust blowby under someconditions and can soot it up. As far as easy to remove and check have no idea have not done it on mine. Some have and say clean as new others say all black and cleaned with contact cleaner. Hope this helps some. :)

I recently pulled mine. I have a K&N and the turbo was dirty so I suspected that the IAT would also be dirty. It was not. No fluids leaked. It did not cause the O-ring to go bad. It did seem a little loose when I removed it though.

iat sensor

after reading posts on tdr thought i would check mine. i use k& n filter also sensor was like new at 110000 miles. :)

After reading some of these post, I've become rather curious. I think I'll skin some knuckles, and check mine out. If nothing else it gives me another excuse to get under the hood and fiddle.

Thanks

Paul:)

Mine had a light patena color when I removed it so I cleaned it up. The easiest way to remove it is with the large spark plug wrench and a six inch extension. The best way to reach it for me was knees on the bumper, left hand on the valve cover and do everything with the free right hand. Mine was loose also. Very loose. I replaced my sensor because it was off several Kohms when I tested it. It made some improvement to my mileage. If you have an exhaust brake, the IAT will get dirty and need to be cleaned.
