Picked up my truck from the dealer yesterday and asked him to put an alarm on it. The dealer said that it would be almost $400 for a standard alarm package. Not the one with the special encriped key they sell as part of the Larime package but a standard run of the mill alarm package. The Price was a bit to high since I put one on my old truck for about 150 a few years back.

The old one I had worked with the standard Dodge remote keyless entry transmitter and since this the new truck has the same type of remote keyless transmitters I would like to use them instead of using some after market type transmitters.

Has anyone been able to make this work. The dealer tells me I must buy his unit as the after market units will not work with 2002 or 2003 trucks.

Any suggestions.

I have the autopage unit and it works great. I also had them install the re,ote start so I can keep it cool for the baby. I was amazed tonight when the truck was parked out in the home depot parking lot and was able to start it from the very back of the building. the remote has a screen so you can see the status of the truck. It is also great for scaring people when it starts and there is no one in the truck.

i have the Viper remote start and alarm on my truck. cost me about $450 to have it installed and I had to get a key from the dealer. They ( dealer) wanted $35 for the key and $35 to program it. I programmed myself and got two keys since i was planning on spending $70 anyway. My dealer thought they had to call corporate for programming, when i told them i would do it myself they were mistified. pretty simple, just follow instructions in manual takes about 30 seconds.

Do you know what the part number was to the alarm package?

I all ready have keyless entry and want to add just the alarm.

Got antother question(sorry to be a pest): with this kit, 82208216, it says it comes with Sentry keys. I'd rather not use them. Do you have to use this with the alarm system or can you use it without?

thanks,

jeff

I think I found a possible alternative to the $300 to $400 alarm systems if you have the keyless entry already on your truck.

JC Whitney has a Valiant Alarm system add on system that according to Valiant's tech rep will do the job nicely. It costs under $50 plus shipping from JC Whitney.

I used one on another truck and it worked fine but the 03/04 trucks use a one wire type of control on the door locks so the installers tell you they will not work.

Valiants tech reps I talked to tell me that all you have to do is bring your wires directly to the drivers door lock motor and the system will work fine. A little more work to remove the door panel so I guess the installers do not want to mess with doing this so they want to sell you another unit at a higher cost.

I am ordering one for my truck now.
