I just bought an 05 quad 4X4. Unfortunately it does not have the factory alarm. I figured that I could have the dealer add a Mopar aftermarket alarm on. Come to find out they do not have a Mopar alarm available. They say I will have to go aftermarket. I’m not too excited about going this route but if it is my only option….

Has anybody added an aftermarket alarm to their truck that they feel good about recommending? I don’t see any need for a remote start. It just needs to unlock the doors in place of the factory key fob, make some noise and blink the lights.

Any recommendations would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Ray

I had a Clifford Alarm on my 2002 1500 4X4, Alarm worked very well and only in real loud thunder right outside would a storm set off the alarm, I mean one where the lighting strikes right there.

I would recommend Clifford Alarms anytime.

I don't have any recommendations, but I think your dealer is wrong.

My "2005 Dodge Ram" Accessories booklet that my dealer handed me has 3 security systems listed. "... For trucks with remote keyless entry, the Sentry Key immobilizer,... and electronically coded ignition keys with panic can be added"

I don't have this, no opinion. Some here don't like the codedignition keys, big $ to get new ones.

Yep it's loaded. Starts by its self also has a turbo cool down timer that’s included the list goes on and on. It comes with a key fob with a car on it and from inside any store you can see if someone bump the truck or broke into it or opened the toolbox I have in the bed. The range is out standing I parked at the lumber department at the local Home Depot and from the garden section I was able to start the truck, yes I was showing off to a friend who didn't think it would reach. Speaking of range it also will tell you if you’re out of range and to be honest I have never been out of range. I was at the Reno gun show down stairs in the Hilton and just for fun I sent it a command and it replied.

Give this MOPAR part number to your dealer and ask him why this won't work on the 2005: 82208985

It cost about $170 if you order it off the internet sites, but you will have to install it yourself, and then have the computer coded by Dodge to activate it.

Have fun... ;)

Yes, I have the keyless entry. I thought the dealer was messed up too. The dealer says that they can upgrade it to the sentry key but that is it. They don't have a shock sensor or siren to add. Back when I bought my Durango it was real easy. They added the parts and ta-da, an alarm that worked with the factory key fob. I may call them tomorrow and harrass them a little more. The one service gut I deal with is pretty good and may dig into it for me. I haven't had a chance to get a feel for how good the parts guys are yet.

Thanks,

Ray

If for some reason, you can't go with the factory option, I like the clifford. I had them on two separate vehicles and it was able share the same transmitter between two separate cars. You could assign a button for each car. It meant that you don't have to carry a transmitter for each car that you own.

Rick,

They say the kit in the link you posted would basically just add the sentry key and a blinking security light to my truck and not a siren. They say a siren is not included as part of the EVS II security system. They say the only way to have gotten a security system with a siren would have been to have ordered the truck with the AJB security group. Does this sound right to you? If your dealer added the security system with a siren I would be interested in visiting them. Could you let me know the name of your dealer? I live out in the Lake Tapps area which is close to you so if you bought local it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Thanks,

Ray

Ray...

You may be right on the siren... I haven't ordered this, as I haven't decided if I want to go through the problem of installing it, and then having to go to the dealer for the computer upgrade. Could it be that it sets off the horn? If so, that will attract just as much attention as a siren, which nowdays, may be very little. I wanted the alarm system with the truck, but couldn't find one with it in the truck when I bought it. I even have two spare "chip" keys that I got off ebay, but will either sell them or use them if I install the EVS system. Have fun... ;)

Thanks Rick,

They said that it couldn't do the horn either. The horn would have been fine by me. Out where I live we get allot of car prowls. Probably kids looking for CD's money etc. All of my neighbors have been hit but not me. The difference? I have a noisy alarm and they don't. The other reason I want one is I'll leave my truck at a marina for a week at a time when I take my boat out. I figure that 99% of the theives will run if they trip the alarm as most marinas are fairly quiet. I also use and sware by "The Club". Not so much that they are fool proof, I think given a choice a thief would choose something without a club first. Did I mention I hate thiefs?

Thanks again!

Ray

Ray... Thanks for the info... I wonder what the "panic" feature does, if it doesn't set off the horn? How can they call it an alarm, if it doesn't make any noise?

I installed the EVS II in my 2001 and it did come with a siren, but I guess this new truck is different. I sure wouldn't waste my time putting it in my 2005 if it doesn't alarm...

Rick,

It was the same thing with my 99 Durango. Basically just hook up the siren, control module, impact sensor and then tell the computer it's there. That's why I was having such a hard time believing the parts guy. Below is a cut and paste from Dodgeparts.com. You will see that it doesn't mention anything about siren.

"Complete kit includes panic feature, interior theft sensor, Sentry Key immobilizer, and electronically coded ignition keys, no other wiring needed (trucks w/o remote keyless entry system must order and install the Keyless entry kit #82207153)"

As much as I hate to admit it, the parts guy might be right on this one.

Ray

Ray... Maybe the parts guy is right (that would be a first) but I still want to know what a "panic feature" is if it isn't connected to the horn or whatever.

Alarm system on 2004 Ram

I have a 2004, equipped with the factory alarm and sentry keys. After delivery, I purchased the impact sensor from Chrysler. I have not installed it yet, but it is a simple job by the instructions. The factory alarm system does activate the horn on entry, and the panic button on the key FOB sounds the horn also. There is no separate siren for the 3rd gens. I installed this same system on my 2001. 5, and it did include a separate siren. To my dismay, the alarm triggered on its own one day. I was on a job site and sound was a concern. I could not deactivate the alarm through any means so I cut the wires to the siren. Suprise! the horn was honking also. By this time, the alarm shut off on its own. It will only sound for a period of time, I don't recall how long. It will then store in memory the kind of incident that happened. This being lock tampering, a jar to the vehicle, etc.

for the peolpe saying cliffore or saying python or viper they are all the same they are all made by DEI they are the buet alarm and how good the alarm is really is a matter of who put it in as to how easy it is to bypass but anyway i have the phthon 881 xp and i put it in myself and really like it

DEI makes

cliffore

python

viper

hornet

wasp

rattler

sidewinder

and mabey a few others

I just bought an 05 and unlike my 03 it does not have the centry system.

From what I understand, if you have the non chip key but do have keyless entry you will get blinking lights, horn chirp on lock/unlock which can be turned off or on which ever you like and the doors are protected with the horn.

So if someone were to break a window and then open a door the keyless entry option functions as an alarm through the horn. It will not prevent starter engagement.

The dealer needing further protection for auto's on the lot equipped this way installs a KARR Security System that adds a shock sensor, starter disable and a list of other stuff that functions through the factory keyless entry fob.

So far except for one issue its been ok. I found out the hard way you don't want to change to "unlock all doors" with one press of the fob as that causes a conflict. I believe there is a fix and will call on it this week cuz I don't like pressing the button twice for all doors to unlock.

I took a look under the dash and didn't really care for the way it was wired into my brand new truck, looks like a quickie slam bam thing, the kind of set up we uninstall at work when customers that own the car can't get them started.

If anyone has any good - bad or otherwise input on KARR please post cuz I never have been fond of non OEM systems.
