Can anyone recomend a good aftermarket alarm system for the Ram. Unfortunately my truck did not come with keyless entry or the alarm system and I am considering having a system installed. What brands are the best? I am considering a Viper but am looking for suggestions and comments.

Thanks for the help.

Viper is made by Directed Electronics Inc. They are the #1 mfg. in the world as far as these type of components go. IMO Viper is a very, very nice alarm system. The only drawback w/ DEI is that if you ever have a warranty claim they can somethimes be a little fussy. AFAIK Viper's are only supposed to be installed by an authorized dealer, but there are way around this. Just thought I'd let you know in case you were considering the install yourself.

I have a Code Alarm in my truck. It's a Sure Start LX. I am very happy with it. One nice thing about the Codes is if you every have some sort of warranty claim, they are very easy to deal with. There are some features of the Code Alarm that I like over the Viper and some on the Viper I like over the Code. Both are great alarms so whatever you decide is a matter of personal preference.

Alpine also makes very nice alarms.

There are the few that I have had expereince with. What is even more important than the Alarm itself is the installation. You probably don't want some hack cutting up wires under the dash of your truck. Best Buy and Circuit City may be some places to avoid. I'm sure there are some decent installers that are employed at some of them, but I bet most are not all that skilled. I would recommend you check w/ some of the high end car audio shops in your area. There installers are most likely a little more accustomed to doing alarm installations.

I've got a Clifford which is now owned by DEI. Look at different features and buy the alarm that will give you what you want. I agree with the above statement. Avoid Best Buy or Circuit City for installs if possible. Be sure to ask the installer if they solder all their joints and see some of their work BEFORE you let them mess with your truck.

My truck came with the auto door locks, but no keyless entry or alarm. Decided to install the MOPAR EVSII system as it would have all the correct harnesses, etc. The main alarm/keyless entry went in okay, but installing the module for the headlight flash/parking light flash was a pain in the a**. I worked for about 2 hours trying to find a place to feed the module harness from under the dash to the headlight switch, but the connector was just too big to fit it through. I finally just cut all the wires, feed them up to the switch, and reconnected them. Oh, I also should tell you that the full kit (alarm/keyless entry/headlight module/wiring harness) cost around $275 from the 5 screw parts department. Also, unless you let them install it... they will not warranty it... :(

I have a Code alarm system in mine. Its old but works pretty good. Has a microphone in the impact sensor for intrusion instead of just the mercury switch, pretty sensitive to knocks on glass. Runs the door locks etc, and loud as hell. But it doesn't do all the different tunes like the Viper systems.

Code alarm systems are installed in the factory in some cars, not sure if its GM or Ford...

Take a boo anyway... Code Alarms

Viper!

I have a Viper installed in mine, I have the autostart option also which is tied to the WAIT TO START light and can be controlled up to 1/4 mile away. I love it. All joints are soldered. I feel you get what you pay for... I paid a little extra for my RAM, a little extra for my audio, a little extra for my BOMBing and other accessories... Should I be cheap on my alarm?? No way!

npalomba,

Since you are in CT can you recomend a good shop for alarm installations. I definately want all of the wiring soldered. I never trusted the scotch lock connectors.
