My truck came equipped with a factory alarm, as long as I remember to lock the doors, it's OK. If however I bump the remote control open button, there the vehicle sits, unlocked and ready to start.

A previous truck I ownedI, had a Black Widow alarm system fitted to it. If the interior light was off for one minuted, ie the doors closed, that alarm would arm itself, the doors were not locked but open a door and not only would the alarm go off, the starter was also disabled. Once I learned the secrets of this system, good to work with.

Question is can the factory alarm on this truck be configured to operate the same way or am I looking at an aftermarket starter disable device to protect the vehicle should I inadvertently omit to activate the alarm. This factory alarm has a fuel shut off but it won't work if the alarm has not been activated.

Thanks in advance.

Not sure if the Factory alarm can be configured to do what you are looking for, but I can tell you I recently had a Viper Alarm installed and couldn't be happier with it. It is self arming, Locks and unlocks my doors, has a remote start and a built it turbo timer if you so choose to use that feature

Viper alarm with the turbo timer!

Hey, which model of Viper did you have installed that has the turbo timer?

Thanks,

Jglass

Much appreciated the tip, trick will be locating one on the west coast north of the 49th.

Thanks again.

I read the whole owners manual about the alarms... I don;t think it can do what your Viper did... never hurts to call the dealer

Oh, and does anyone know a quick and easy way to get the Cargo light to illuminate when I unlock the doors?

The turbo timer is a great feature to haveincluded in an alarm system. The question I have is how does the remote start feature work in conjunction with the grid heaters "wait to start" deal?

BP

Im not sure how it does, but I can tell you this past summer when I first got the alarm, I would hit the button and the truck would fire right up. Now as the weather is getting colder here in connecticut there is a long delay from the time I hit start and the truck does start to crank

The remote start taps into the wait to start light. One it goes off it will trigger the unit to start the truck.

I am doing a little more research on the TT to see how it functions.

I had my turbo timer pre programmed by my installer to run the truck for 3 minutes. When I get where Im going with my foot off the brake, I simultaneously hold the two bottom button of my remote until the dash lights light. Once they are lit, you take the ignition key out, arm the alarm and walk away. the truck shuts down in 3 minutes... . god forbid someone should break into the truck during the 3 minutes... . as soon as you hit the brake the truck shuts off

The turbo timer on the Viper will run the truck for a user adjustable present time, either 1, 3, 5, or 10 minutes. In order to change the time you need to reprogram the unit so you cannot select a different time, other than the already preset time, for every shutdown.

I think this is a very nice feature to have on an alarm/remote start unit. I wish it was around a couple years ago :)

Whens it is around zero degrees I want to be right there in the truck when my it rolls over. Odds of a failure increase dramatically when its very cold. The Turbo timer is nice but how often do you need to sit for more than a few seconds before you are ready to shut down?

In the summer month, it is almost always at least a minute before my truck cools down to 300 degrees post turbo.
