We were in Alaska this July with my truck and trailer. It was the start of a 4 month trip for us. I used to work along the Stewart Cassiar Highway (Highway 37 - runs from Highway 16 to the Alaska Highway) and we have family at the south end so that is the route we took. They are working on the road and trying to get it chip sealed all the way to Watson Lake. It used to be gravel for large parts. The frost heaves keep the speed down but the scenery is great (and they are fixing the road). The road is narrow but the traffic is light.
We stayed in Stewart and went to the Salmon Glacier (the fish weren't running yet at Fish Creek). We then when to Dease Lake and into Telegraph Creek - down the Stikine River Valley (the Grand Canyon of the North). Both trips I will do again.
We did not have a lot of time because of family commitments so we went onto Whitehorse for a few days and then went to Skagway and took the ferry to Prince Rupert. The ferry was long (about 40 hours). If I had more time I would have back through Liard. I would also go up to Dawson City and across to Alaska through Chicken.
I tow a 29 foot Arctic Fox Travel Trailer.
