Anyone going "trailerless" from Dallas to Los Angeles?

Hello TDR Brothers!

I know a few TDR Brothers are heading for the "Last Frontier" this Summer for vacation..... I'm also on my way up for a month of adventure & sea Kayaking.

I have a few days in Anchorage to whined down before I return to the lower 48... . Would anybody be interested in meeting for breakfast/coffee & maybe a Reindeer Sausage Omlette? How about Pizza @ the Moose's Tooth? A beer @ the Great Alaskan Bush Company?

I have Sunday, July 7th & Monday the 8th in Anchorage w/o much to do..... Anyone want to talk Diesels?

Have a great time in Alaska so I can live vicarioulsy thorugh you. :D

I would love to have a beer with you at the GABC!!! I liked that place when I was there 10 years ago. I hope they have new entertainers by now. Anyway, I wish I could for sure, but the wife won't let me go without her and the baby!! I don't think she would like the GABC as much as I would.

Diversion....

Maybe a last minute dash to one of Anchorages (2) Costco's or Sam's Club is in order... ... People get lost in those places for hours buying 'pallets' of Supersized Goods. Should be long enough for 2 "Adult Malt Beverages" & a stiff neck. :D:eek::rolleyes:

1992 was also my first visit to Alaska..... Can't seem to get enough of that state!

A stiff neck is not what she's worried about!:p;) I would love to go just for the salmon fishing. It is amazingly beautiful country (and I've been to a few of them!). An "Adult Malt Beverage" sounds good too!

I think the next time I go will be on a cruise ship through the inner passage and up to Glacier Bay. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!Oo.

What Kerry said. I too, will be living vicariously through you on the trip. Back in 1978 my dad took us on a family vacation from Los Angeles to Anchorage. We drove the Al-Can highway back when it was still wild and completely unpaved. I was on 11, but for the rest of my life I will never forget it. Of course if I ever make it back up there, I ain't gonna want to leave again... ...

Enjoy, and take as many rolls of film (or batteries for the digital camera if ya have one) as you can fit in that camper!

Lunch at the Mooses Tooth.

KEENO,

Sounds good to me. Monday for lunch at the tooth. Give me a call and remind me. I'll post a link to your post to the Alaska Bombers group. I'll e-mail my number to you.

Hey Keeno,

Would be great to meet and talk Diesels for awhile but I'll be there about a month after you. I go up on July 27 for 2 weeks. Taking my Dad up for a fishing trip. This will be my last chance to take him on a trip like this, he is 78 and really starting to slow down. I'm looking forward to this!

I just got back from there. I spent a week in Homer fishing for salmon and halibut. Salmon fishing wasn't very good this time, but I did great on the halibut, my largest was 67" and 165 lbs. One morning I came out of the Duncun House after having breakfast and there sat a nice black dually from Texas with a TDR badge on the front grill! Noticed a lot more Dodge/Cummins than Fords up there.

fSTOP,

Ain't it cool to catch fish like that!Oo. I caught one 2 years ago that went 174#. The thing looked HUGE!! That is my largest fish ever. Will try again this summer.

Sorry to hear the Salmon fishing was a little slow. Any reason they could give or was it just a slow period?

Was there any salmon coming into the fishing lagoon or was it too early? That place is a zoo when the fish are running.

Depending on the weather I will be around. I get back from work on the 3rd and will be off till the 17th. Lunch sounds good... . let me know...

Paccool,

Those who were fishing with us at the Spit's `Fishing Hole' were saying that numbers of returning fish were way down this year. I also noticed that the State was putting a lot of restrictions on several of the rivers, and put some off limits altogether. Guess it might be a slow year. But, it was still great fun. That halibut trip made everything worth while.

Basically the Kenai River is closed for Kings till the July 1 or 10th depending on where you fish in the river. The Kasilof is closed to the retention of Kings that are wild, you can keep the hatchery fish. Other than that so far so good. I caught a few kings last weekend, the biggest being about 20 lbs. That was in Deep Creek but it is closed for the season as normal.

If anyone needs info on where and when to fish or reccomendations for charter operators in Homer or Ninlchik/Deep creek let me know. My brother was a guide down that way for a few years and my Dad lives in Ninilchik now.
