Battery How To?

If anyone is interested... ... ..... we just got into Anchorage from Az. pulling our new 34' 5th. whl.

The Alaska Highway is in very good condition for this time of year.

There is an 8 mile construction section that is smooth and ready to pave just north of Coal R.

From Haines Junction to Tok, Ak. it gets "a little frost heavey" but lots of those will be gone as the weather warms up. The road from Tok to Glenallen is in good shape except for 28 miles of earthquake damage done last fall with a 7. 9 quake in that area. There are about 20 or so 300' sections of gravel but they are smooth and maintained well. One section about a mile in length is soft and rutted and may be a problem or it also may dry up in a few weeks.

A 10 mile major construction project is in progress at Caribou Creek which is about 70 miles out of Anchorage. After April 21 the road will be closed from 1 AM to 7 AM. each day.

Diesel prices are 75 to 85 Canadian cents/liter. The highest was $1. 10/ liter at a lodge about mile 600. Didn't buy much of that. That is about $2. 80 US/gal. In Tok it was $1. 75/gal. and in Anchorage it is $1. 65/gal.

Jack in Alaska:

Thanks for the road condition report.

I'm looking forward to experiencing those roads in July on the "CTDs to Alaska" trip.

Thanks for the report. I plan on heading south in June following school letting out. I agree this is the wrong time to leave AK. However, summer is the only time I can take the grandson, age 13, and do our NC family visiting and lower 48 sight seeing that I wish to show him.

No offense dalton4 but...

I think I'd sooner shoot myself than leave Alaska (the most beautiful place on earth!) just as summer was knocking on the door!

:D

John, I agree with you on Alaska being great in the summer. This trip is mainly for the grandson. My way is AK in summer and the lower 48 during the cooler months.
