Thanks to all who replied, some great information. I was suprized at all the repeat trips. I have a 2007 5. 9l with an exhaust brake and a 34ft 14. 2k trailer. Would take a bath if we sold it now. Is is really to big for the trip?

Thanks again for you help and suggestions.

My parents just made the trip to Alaska with a 37ft 5th wheel with 4 slides, and they had no problems. My Dad pulled it with his Duramax/Allison Chevy  without an exhaust brake. He said the roads were a lot better than they were 15 years ago. We were up there visiting them and there are a lot of huge rigs up there (motorhomes, 5th wheels, travel trailers), so I really don't think there should be a problem, other than fuel costs#@$%!

You will not have any problems with the road. Fuel mileage for 14k plus you are probably in the 10 ish range per gallon. The fuel stops are more so in the summer than in the winter but no farther than 250/300 for any place. I WOULD have an aux transfer tank installed. You would want more range than what the 35 gallon main would give you. We pick the major towns to fuel up as the might have better quality or cleaner fuel than a podunk stop. When we traveled with some friends with a camper on the back so they did not carry any extra fuel and we had to stop and wait for them every 250 miles and this was in October. As fuel in Canada is sold by the liter and now prices are over $5. 50 per gallon in US prices and a little more in canada when you do the liter to gallon exchange rate. It will be spendy but enjoy yourself and have a good trip. Lots of fantastic scenery and wildlife along the way. Lots of campgrounds along the way in the summer. Having a Milepost way befor you travel is a good idea for your first trip, study it well befor you leave so you can make a plan for stops.

I am considering the the trip as well. Maybe 2009 or 2010. I own a 42" 5er, but will probabley pick up a Lance. It would be neat to get a group together. Thanks for all the great posts!
