Making another trip up the highway this summer with my new truck pulling my 5ver. Haven't decided which route for sure I'm taking this time as I've got some committments to see some folks along the way. My concern is the availability of ULSD on the Cassiar Highway route. Anybody know if the Canadian distribution system has this covered?

That's a good question and I don't know the answer.



Flying J has spread across Canada very rapidly in the last several years. You can find them on the FJ website. There are several excellent Canadian fuel chains as well. If you have an auxilary fuel tank installed you should be able to fill where ULSD is available.

I've got a 90 gallon tank that I used last trip, but I need the bed space for this trip so it may have to stay behind. I may just stay on the I-15 route and go through Calgary and Edmonton, I'm pretty sure fuel will be fine along that route.

This seems to answer the question. Seems Canada didn't go through the gyration of having both ULSD and LSD at the same time like we did in the States.

Gosh, I've become so dependent upon my aux tank I'd probably be more willing to leave a wheel/tire home instead of my tank, particularly on the AK highway and Cassiar highway route.



You'll find excellent Flying J and Husky fuel stations along that route. Both Husky and FJ have big fully equipped full-service stations in Edmonton if my memory serves as well as modern stations in most of the cities along that route. Here's a link to Husky fuel stop locations:

I hear you about the tank, I've got my reservations about it, but I've got certain items that need to travel with me that won't go in the 5ver (large ice chest, generator etc. ) I'm not too concerned if I go the Edmonton route, but I've never used the Cassiar or any other route and so was concerned about fuel. I've got friends who've hauled horses down through there without an extra tank with no problems, but they don't have to worry about ULSD either. Seems though that Canada used her head and made the switch in one fell swoop, while we here in the US have given the latitude to use both. Just a recipe for disaster for some I think.

I don't know about other Flying J's but, the one here in Phoenix carries both LSD & ULSD.



However, some of the competitors only carry LSD.
