Should be a good time. I talked to Eric Payne, he is the event coordinator at Alban. Looks like they are willing to run pickups this year as well. He wasn't familiar with the TDR but seemed pretty excited at the prospect of a bunch of Cummins powered Rams showing up. They may be willing to run more than 30 trucks if there is enough demand. They normally get about 3 trucks per hour on the dyno. Cost should be $80. 00 for two runs. The dyno numbers that count must be held for 5 seconds. They use a Taylor dyno, similar to the one that Cummins in Glen Burnie uses. I believe it is a road/load simulating dyno.

Food and drinks are going to be served by a local VFD at a nominal cost. Alban does this to allow the local VFD to make a few bucks to help fund their department.

Hopefully a few of our members can spin the rollers and put up some big numbers.

He would like folks to register. You can print out the PDF and fax it or you can call Eric and register. He is going to set up a section of their lot for pickups/TDR folks.

You can download the registation form at:

Here is a note from Bruce Mallinson regarding the event:

Well it's that time of the year when we gather together to celebrate the dyno testing of the Large Cars from the eastern part of the United States. This will be the 2nd Annual Alban Engines Power Day 2003 at Elkridge, Maryland. Last year was the first year and it was a great success and this year will be better. There will be an outside display of the dyno monitor and bleachers so everyone will be able to be seated. I will be the announcer and the spectators will know who owns the truck, the transmission, the rear gears, type of engine and what modifications were done to produce the horsepower and a short story about the owner and where he's from. You must pre-register for this event because we can only dyno 30 trucks in a days time. So far we have trucks registered from 8 different states. Ted Streit from Wisconsin is the truck coming from the greatest distance so far. Now what about you west coast guys, we always hear about your big trucks, so bring them to Maryland and show us what you've got. Rumor has it that the Texans are coming, Frank Heidon and Butch Shuman with their twin-turbo K-Series Cummins powered A-Model Kenworths. Bruce Pope will be there with his Mike Robinson built 3406-B cat engine that last year put 902 h. p. to the ground. And I'm sure that last year's winner Mutt Taymen will be there to defend his title as King Of The Hill.

There will be 6 classes of engines so the smaller cu. in. engines won't have to compete against the K's, the mechanical engines and electronic engines will have their own class.

If you would like to participate please call Eric Payne at Alban Engines to register, their phone number is 800-443-9813 ext. 476. The fax number is 410-796-8198.

CRAAAAAAAAAAP!

The New England folks are having a dyno day in Rhode Island on this SAME DAY!!

Man, I would love to get a group of us to go down to MD to check this out.

I hear that a guy made 1000hp at the wheels last year (class-8 truck).

I think that Bruce Mallinson and a LOT of other folks would poop their pants if they saw what the little B-series are capable of.

How far from Capitol Raceway...

... there is another DHRA event on the 18th. If it was close maybe some of us will slip down and check things out... Doug

It's not even 30 min from the track. Everyone coming from the north and west will just about pass it on the way to the track. It's close to Ellicott City.
