Alban Engines Power day, 2002

Quote from magazine article,

""The East Coast boys have done what the West Coast has been trying to do for a long time, and that is put over 1000 ( One thousand) horsepower to the ground for a period of 5 seconds.

This was accomplished by William"Mutt" Tayman of Upper Marlboro, MD. 1007 hp for 5 seconds. ""

End quote.

Bruce Mallinson, owner, Diesel Injection of Pittsburgh had their fingers in it. Very imppressive.

;)

WOW!!

Sled Puller,

Very interesting, any details given? I suppose that it was a P7100 equipped 5. 9 on exotic fuels??? Thanks for the headsup :).

Larry

oops......

Oh, dern it, I forgot to type in the rest of the article!

"... ... . 1979 359 Peterbuilt powered by a KTTA Cummins.

1150 Cubic inches, twin turbos, hydraulic variable timing,(cool) and a fuel pump built by D. I. o P. "

A 3406 Cat was next highest at 901.

Third place went to another Cummins, but he lost the Turbo at 792hp

Funny the article is written this way, seems the big boys have a little East vs West battle going on also. :D

I guess I like them simple, but I think the best looking truck was the '79 Pete. with the 1007 hp. Alum. wheels, no sleeper, nice stacks, just plain. So what if it's dirty, it's a truck. :)

alright Gene, that's it.

you suckered us all with that one (rassen frassen succotash).

pick up your toys and go home :D

funny thing is the big trucks arent that much farther ahead of us. considering their size!!

At what RPM was that power achieved? IIRC, the *large* diesels turn slower than our little ones, which would mean the torque would *away* up thereto achieve 1000 HP.

That was a good one, Gene!

Hey! I forgot to post the whole article! Honest mistake!

Fester,

I doubt that engine is turning much higher rpm than stock, and I will bet he can usee just about all his power also. DIoP takes great pride in building powerful workhorses.

Still, 1007 from 1150, me thinks there is still a lot of power in there to be found.

What were the tq #? awesome, I'm sure.

Our engines are impressive- doubling the cubic inches in hp.

With the right cam and twin set up, our engines can tow in the 500-600 hp range, with safe egt.

Find a gasser or V-8 Diesel Diesel that can do that!

I would certainly think there is alot more available out there. My dad in '76 had a Kenworth putting out 750hp at the rear wheels. It had a V-12 Detroit, twin turbo'd and twin super'd. That's 26 year old technology and not that far behind what these guys had. This was in his work truck, drove it everyday. 2. 5 - 3 mpg at 90,000 gross.

Torque is the difference. My Dodge is putting out 100 HP more than my last Freightliner that pulled 85,000 lbs everyday. My 525 HP N14 puts out something over 2,000 ft lbs of torque.

The land speed record Kenworth T2000 was powered by a 19-liter Cummins K19 (about 1160cid) turned up to 2200hp @ 3000rpm, so that is close to 2hp per CID. You can imagine they had their foot in it for much longer than 5 seconds getting up to speed!

I almost think it's embarrassing that the LSR for a Highway Hauler category, IE, closest possible to stock form, is quite a bit faster than what is held by a diesel powered pickup

We Have a trucker (Bob Wilson Trucking) out here on the "West Coast" that has a "K" that has been putting out over a 1000 HP for about 10 to 20 years now. He's been a sponsor for the "Truckin for Kids" event (Show & Drags) for quite a few of those years and one year I asked his wife why he wanted all those horses, which he does'nt publicize, and she said "He doesn't like to be passed" :D
