FYI - I just spoke to Alcoa regarding wheels for our 3rd gen trucks. They have two wheels AVAILABLE NOW made specifically for 3rd gens. 17x8 and 17x8. 5. Both wheels are HUBCENTRIC. The 17x8. 5 has a 5. 625" backspace and . 709" offset (not sure what such offset would translate to in mm's). P/N for the 17x8. 5 is #478681. Sorry, but I did not get P/N for the 17x8. Since they don't sell direct, he recommended that orders go through Haltec (800) 321-6471, a distributor, which I just called and got a price of $245 each. I was told that they come polished.

Disclaimer - I'm not affiliated with Haltec or Alcoa. Just desperately trying to find solutions for our trucks.

Cool, although on the SRW trucks it does not matter if the wheel is hubcentric as the stock wheels are lug centric. A true hubcentric wheel does not use conical lug nuts.

hmph, that 8. 5" wide wheel would be nice, but with that backspacing, it will require a fender flare:(

If I'm not mistaken our wheels for SRW trucks are both hub and lugcentric. At least that is what I've been told.

Yes. But they're not made specifically for our trucks (i. e. , backspace and hubcentric) and they are most likely cast versus Alcoa's which are forged.

But if the Mickey's are cast (which they are according to the MT website). That is a big deal. Forged wheels are incredibly strong.

On a 8. 5" wide rim the backspace needs to be at least 6. 0" to keep the tire inside the plane of the wheelwell.

I think the challenge is clearance-related inside the wheelwell for people wanting to run large tires, so they offset the rim outward slightly for this. That's the only reason I can think of why Alcoa didn't try to match stock specs.

When do we see 19. 5's for SRW? The stock aluminum wheels survived TREX testing for years including jumping. Good enough for me... George

Wrong wheel style?

Hmmmm. . the part number given to me by Alcoa is actually this style, and not their classic style like I had assumed. Kinda looks like a Hummer wheel. Never seen this styling from Alcoa before.

My biggest concern is the wheel ratings. I looked at many 17 inchers and found them lacking. The load range "E" tires I use are rated for 3025# at 80 PSI. The wheels I looked at were cast and the ratings were low: max PSI was 60#. So if I buy a cast wheel, it will take the load but the PSI will be 20# under what the tires need to take the same load. I think I will stick with the Dodge chrome on steel wheels.

csilkowski, thanks for posting the information. I'm considering upgrading load capacity of my tires and wheels.

On another but related topic, does anyone know the weight rating of the factory aluminum wheels?

I'm not sure WHICH Alcoa you spoke with but the guy I spoke with said they didn't even have spec's for these wheels yet and that they wouldn't be available 'til 4th quarter. I called to ask about BS & offset and info I had gotten off of southwest wheel's site. He reiterated that the wheels would be OEM spec when they did become available. I think his name was Chuck at Alcoa.
