I need some HELP!!

I am looking to purchase a set of USED Alcoa wheels and I need to know if ALL the wheels they made are FORGED or if they made cast wheels in the past:confused:

I found some threads on the internet that Alcoa had to recall the 1993 to 1996 Dual wheels because they cracked.

The wheels I am looking at look like LTS wheels. Also need to know what else to look for?? What back space for my '96 4x4?

Thanks for the help:D :D :D Jim

The Alcoa LTS has always been a forged wheel to the best of my knowledge. I have several sets of the Alcoa LTS wheels myself on my trucks. All see heavy towing and plowing, and one did crack. One phone call to Alcoa and they replaced them ALL. Shipped to my door next day at no charge,no questions asked. They even paid for all the balancing, installation, and return shipping. No questions asked. No receipt needed. Great customer service.

They are a very tough wheel, and stand up to the elements well. If they get tarnished,a quick polish with autosol and they look like new. The new design is even beefier than the old one.

I would shop around,as I have seen them quite cheap brand new. This way you would get the newer stronger design. If you do get the older style, they will replace them for you even if they are not cracked, under a recall. I think they only offer one size (backspacing) for the 16" rim but it is a perfect fit for my 97 truck. Only wish the stock centre cap would fit,but it won't,you'll need aftermarket caps and lug nuts.

Alcoa recalled the early style of 16x7 LTS wheel, #167011 and replaced them with 167031. This is a 5 spoke style wheel. No other wheels were affected AFAIK. Check out www.alcoawheels.com/maint/letter.asp

They make 16x6 and 16x7 for Single Rear Wheel pickup trucks. The Classic style, #167001, was not affected. This is the solid wheel with 8 holes around the perimeter of the center section.

Thanks for the info... I'm trying to get in touch with Alcoa about the 167011's .

I'm not the original owner SOOOO I wonder if I can get them replaced:confused: I did find the recall on their website but the line is busy???

If they are replaced AND I have a choice -- Which style looks best? The 167001 or the 167031.

I have seen someones truck pic with different wheels than mine.

And I wonder if the caps and nuts fit the new ones?

Isn't this FUN:D  But if they replace them I will have new wheels.

As far as I was told,it didn't matter who owned the rims,it was a recall so it must be done for anyone. Just like a recall on a vehicle, doesn't matter who owns it or how old it is. So if you get the used ones and they are the ones covered under the recall you should get brand new ones from them (Alcoa).

I was told I had a choice of a stronger replacement LTS (167031) or the Challenger (167001A). Personally I like the LTS better so that is what I got.

The lug nuts and caps are the same for both wheels, but the stock (Dodge) centre caps won't work (on the LTS).

If they do replace them remember to get reimbursed for all the changeover cost as well.

Alcoa recalled the original LTS wheels (the 167011):p

I talked to the recall center and they want my wheels back AND they pay for shipping, mounting and packing.

I get new wheels -- NO -- IFS, ANDs, or BUTS --PERIOD... :D :D :D :

TOO Bad I don't have new tires. Speaking of which.

What are the feelings toward >> Uniroyal LT 235-85R-16 load

range E (10 ply rated) JUST for everyday driving??

Thanks for all the Help:D Jim

Glad to hear they came through for you, you'll like the new LTS. Nothing like a new set of rims for free.

Now,all ya gotta do is find a set of Firestones... . and get them replaced for free under the recall... ... ... ... ... ... just kidding !

I have never been a big uniroyal fan,but if they are priced right, then great. I personally like only Michelins (LTX MS) and BFG's (Mt and AT),but they can be priced higher than most other tires. I'm sure some other members can recommend a good budget tire for your application.
