Dad bought a 27' 14,700 gooseneck last year. The most that has been hauled on it, is an 8000# pick up. he has been anal about tire pressure, and keeping it nice.
After we got back from Muncie, we noticed right side tread started to peel on the Coopers.
We assumed, poor tread design for a spread axle.
Called the dealer, and he said never had that problem before, he was going to call Cooper and Moritz, and see what could be done.
No answer back as of last week.
Dad saw another trailer, same design today, loaded to the hilt with antique gas engines.
Dad asked the guy if he had any tire problems.
Sure did, he says, check your crossmembers, they are in the wrong place.
Turns out he bought his from the same place, the dealer fixed his, WITH A TORCH.
He blew half the crossmembers (4) away, put a new set of tires on, and said here ya go.
This is totally unacceptable to me.
Just checked ours, and sure enough, there is STEEL ground away, in the shape of the tire, left side not as bad, but still rubbing.
Keep in mind, this trailer has never been overloaded.
Come Tuesday morning the dealer is going to get an ear full.
Any suggestions on how to handle this?
To me, the deck needs to come off, and a new crossmember put in that will clear.
