Key Fob Repair

John,

I think I figured out the situation my truck is lighting on approach without touching it... my truck is stored inside "UNLOCKED". So everytime I walk near it with the fob, it detects it and automatically turns them on. Same when I'm washing it, why I have to take the fob away from the truck.

Anyhoo, another mystery solved I believe.

Cheers, Ron

Yes that’s the same reference, but it says when unlocked with the fob.

Mine is also stored inside and unlocked, but doesn’t do anything with the lights when I approach. Washing is the same, as mentioned, due to the sensor in the door handle activating with the water.

Can you have the fob on the drivers side and unlock the truck on the passenger side with the handle?

Yes the EB feature is nice, and part of the ECM programming and not the BCM.

So, I've been out with the truck and haven't been able to duplicate my experience, and it hasn't happened since I left the fob in the shop with the fob. It was actually annoying working around the truck with the fob. This is only a theory, but perhaps the truck receiver (cant think of the correct term) was actually malfunctioning and cleared when fob detected for so long. I'll post if it happens again.

Crazy me or crazy truck; both plausible.:p

Cheers, Ron

I’ve also noticed that if I leave my fob in the truck it stays “awake” and takes much longer for the battery charger to indicate 100%. If the fob is out side the rig it’s “asleep” and tops off much quicker. I can leave the fob with 10’ of the truck and it doesn’t do anything, it’s even too far to get the truck to unlock with the handle.

I find it interesting its quit doing it after I spent all the time with the swapping LEDs and halogens. In fact, I had to take the fob away from the truck to keep from activating the lights while working on them.

I'm also finding it hard to believe leaving the fob 20ft away from the truck had anything to do with it as it's always been a safe zone for it.

Seems whatever I did, I fixed it or it fixed itself.

Got to force mind to stop thinking about it. Getting up to 75° here today, perfect for coating LRE bed boards with marine spar.

Cheers, Ron

Hey Ltngdrvr,
Will a replacement button pad fix the problem?
That way, you keep the same electronic board. No programming needed.

I can't get a link to work, so if you search the following on amazon, you should find it.

Hmm...Didn't even consider that they would offer the button pad alone as a replacement.
Comments on them say the "PANIC" button portion is made too tall and most have issues with the panic going off when they insert it into the ignition switch. Some cut that part of the button pad off and go without the panic feature, some replace the panic button section with the cut off button from the original button pad.

Think I will order a pair and try them, only booger is that they are not on Prime so returning them if they don't work would possibly be a PITA, or I'd just have to eat the cost.

Thanks @RaceC !

Well, after ordering a pair of the fob button covers that weren't on prime, I found another listing that was for some offered on prime, and they were cheaper with one day delivery! So, cancelled the first order and ordered a pair from the ones supplied by amazon prime.
Now, I may end up with two sets if the first ones don't get cancelled...hope not...
