2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission New 2WD Steer Tires

I did the DSS and '03 Track Bar and am still getiing a little wander. In addition, I noticed the driver's side tire starting to cup now. I was wondering if any of you guys needed an alignment after these mods or if there's someithing else I should be looking at. I thought that an alignment wasn't supposed to be necessary, just recentering the steering wheel.

Depending on how worn out the original track bar was, you might need to have it re-aligned.

If it had been aligned with worn out parts, the new pieces may have shifted the axle slightly which would throw the alignment off again.

After both of the kit installs, I did have the truck aligned. The steering wheel was off center and I put new tires on at this time as well. The kit instruction did include the procedure to re- center the wheel, but theoretically, it should not need the re- alignment- I could be wrong though.

Prior to the kit installs, I did have pull and tire wear to which the alignment did help those symptoms. It might be that you need the alignment regardless of the chassis improvments.

I wasn't impressed with the trackbar & DSS after I installed them either. It wasn't until I drove with my camper on, that a BIG difference was noticed.

I still had some wander after installation of DSS products and took it to a reputable alignment shop. They loved the upgrades(especially the 3rd gen conversion trackbar setup). After an inspection they pronounced my steering box the culprit and suggested adjusting the gear. After 1 1/2 turns I have pretty tight steering now. Still doesn't drive like a 3rd gen though.

Re-center the steering wheel

Could someone explain how to re-center the wheel? I put the dss on my 02 and now my steering is always at ten oclock and drives me nuts. Thanks,Chris. :p

Theoretically, an alignment shouldn't be required, but I did mine after installing the DSS and the new style track bar plus a Borgeson steering shaft. I also had the alignment shop put in 4 deg of caster and there was a huge improvement in how my truck goes down the road.

FYI... on my truck, there was an interference issue between the lower u-joint on the Borgeson shaft and the DSS mounting hardware. I had to weld the driverside bracket of the DSS to the frame because the mounting bolt interfered with the Borgeson unit's u-joint.
