The brass cap is bought from AutoZone. . it is a GM oil fill Cap.

The Rubber grommett is one of those "HELP!" Items on the red carded items sold in parts stores... The # for that... .

I performed this trick a while back as well. It works well I used a 3/4 inch heater hose rubber cap to cap off the original crank case vent. Keeps the radiator clean now. After I did this trick I pulled the radiator to clean it and man it was a mess from the original puke bottle. I bet it was 50% blocked with oil cake. I cant see how the engine stayed cool. A great mod. Great pic/post Eric.

I have been meaning to do this fix since I saw Eric's post. I had already replaced the oil splattering bottle with a breather that was baffled and had breather (k&n) on it that I used to use on sand cars, which had to be mounted on pass fender wall. It worked good, but I got tired of having to remove it to get to oil filter during changes. Since I was getting ready to adjust the valves and cover was to be off anyway, this was going to be a good time. Eric is right, this was a cinch. I made sure that the hole wouldn't interfere with any valve springs and such. Drilled a 1/4 inch hole and used a step drill to go up to 1 1/4 inch hole for grommet. I then used my small 2 inch grinder to remove the ribbing enough to allow grommet to fit flat. I bought a Moroso valve cover breather P/N 68781. Chromed and all. It took a 5/8 hose that is run down away from headers, down pipe, etc. . and tied into the bracket on frame. Eric good post and works great. Oo.

Long time update.....

I just replaced my Fan with a hortn fan clutch..... when I was able to look on the inside of the radiator, it was clean as a whistle! the only thing was I had some bugs on the outside but that is normal... .

Ok am I missing something here? My breather/blow by tube is comming off the front of my motor. Not infront of the radiator as it sounds like everyone elses. Also I dont have a bottle either. I am moving mine to the top off my valve cover cause its leaking all over my garage.

Im guessing that everyone elses is where mine is but how is it cloging radiators if the fan is blowing the oil mist back at the motor is my question??

99's don't have a catch bottle. It just drips on the ground, road or garage floor.

If you keep the oil level a little bit less than the "full" mark you can reduce the amount of blowby, but not prevent it. It also helps if you don't drive it so hard. Yeah, Right! LOL

Yes the breather is on the front of the engine and not on the front of the radiator. You would think that the oil would only blow back all over the engine.

I am not a great expert on this. But, in truth the oil just splatters all over the place in the area of the vent. It even gets on the back or engine side of the radiator. The radiator actually clogs from the back to the front as funny as that might sound.

My truck is a 98. 5 24 Valve. My vent is on the side like the 12's are. I still get a mess out of it. Could I do the fix for it as well?

Kent

Dooo whaaaaaaaatt???? Maybey thats the fix weve been looking for! :-laf

Mine is still dripping all over the steering box, but in a few weeks as weather warms its beeing moved and rad. cleaned.

Oil under the truck is rust prevention. I just hate seeing it all over the easily visible parts in front-- and in the radiator.

What kit are you talking about? Just extending the hose should not cause this unless it is kinked or retstricted somehow.

Your post caught my eye. Ive wondered if the "hill" issue is causing me to lose (or use) oil. I did find the issue on the internet (did I see it on a TSB ?). But, I thought I remember seeing that it only was a problem going off-road at about a 37 or 22 degree grade. (that pretty steep)

Are folks experiencing this problem just going on regular freeways, perhaps going over mountains ?

Read the thread. He's talking about the breather installed to the end of the valve cover.

OK, Thanks I did not read the whole post due to time, just jumped in at the end here.

Guys,

I am the starter of this thread, I don't know what happened with crimefighters job... . If he did use the same part as I did, it should do OK ... The Item only has like a scotch pad in there... It was for a PCV return that doubled as the oil fill for a V-8 engine so it needed to flow well... I have done this since the start of this thread, I tow a 15K 5th wheel, it puffs out the hose when Idleing... Just don't know what happened with his... It does work and the N-14 Cummins engine is This configuation with the vent coming out the top... . Look at the start of the thread and the part Number for the oil fill vent is on there... .
