Man, what a job!
took me almost two weeks and most of that was waiting for the local guy to tell me he can't find any parts for me.
I checked back with him for over a week and he never did find anything, so I went to the Cummins web site and found a "real" Cummins shop about two hours away and drove there after a phone call to make sure they had the parts, and had everything in one day.
I wanted to smack that first fellow. You could tell he just did not want to put any effort out. I stopped back at the local shop on the way home and asked if he had any luck finding parts and he told me that I would have over $600. 00 in parts and Cummins said they were all out of the gear cases. :--) I said that's awful peculiar as I just got back from Cumberland Cummins in Fairmont, WV. and they had everything I needed and I got it all for $450. 00.
He did not have much to say after that so I just left.
Anyway I did not get to adjust the timing. I just set everything to TDC. It started right up after the usual bleeding if the lines. I only have to tighten the fan nut as i don't have a wrench to fit the nut.
What size is the Fan nut and is there any wrenches specific to this task?
I loosened it with a drift punch and it came right off.
Had close to $900. 00 in everything. That includes new #6 TST plate and 60lb springs and several other odds and ends that have needed attention ie. hoses, filters, fluids, other gaskets, and two new sensors. I broke the oil pressure sensor putting the inj. pump back on by myself.
I have learned alot about my truck and feel more comfortable about it now.
Next thing is a new performance transmission! Oo.
