That's to make sure that you have plenty to drink when you are waiting on the wrecker when old reliable 6.7 scatters itself all over the ground. :-laf

In all seriousness, what in the world can be so special to be worth $100K?

I believe the $100k price tag is the MSRP + tax and title of the F450 in Limited trim which is Fords luxury package that wasn't previously available in the Superduty. I can see how the 450 could be ~$10k more than a 350 when you consider the heavier suspension, larger axles and 19.5 wheels/tires, but it is an insane amount for a pickup indeed.

Meegan Ford here in Mt. Pleasant Pa carries quite a few of the high end luxury trucks. A retired friend of mine drives vehicles for them on dealer trades and he often tells me when they get something new/interesting in. Last month they got in a F350 Platinum that had a sticker of $86300. It sold in less than a week. They have a couple of white ones on the lot now. Anyway, he tells me all the time that they can't keep them in stock. I just don't understand how these people afford these things.

$86k for a one ton pick up

What blows my mind about that is an entry level truck can be had for around $50-55k.
Hard to believe there's really ~$30k worth of options on a truck.

Think 2-4K for the items and 26-28K in extra profit. And again a new RAM can be purchase for 10's of thousand less than the GM or FORD.

That is probably a fairly accurate description. Back when things like air conditioning were options, you could see that the extra cost would actually add components to the vehicle. The way these things are built now, all the wiring and hard parts are basically the same and minor changes in trim or materials makes up the difference. Sure there are some things like heated steering wheels, seats, etc. that may be different than the lower trim levels, but not anything that would equal their supposed option charges.

Everyone thinks I'm crazy when I say it, but I would love to buy my next truck with as few options as possible. In all of the vehicles I have ever owned, I use the air conditioner, radio (which usually stays on the same station), and cruise control. My seat and adjustable pedals are in the same spot that they were when I left the dealership, etc. My van is absolutely loaded to the max and I've only turned most things on once to see if they work. Don't get me wrong, all of those extra things are great and some people love them. I just don't have a use for them.

When I was truck shopping I was looking hard at the C&C models for two reasons. One, the larger fuel tanks and two you can actually get vinyl floor in them. In all my searches I didn't find one pickup with vinyl floors.

The one option I really wish I had was the factory back up cameras. I really like the integration of them and would love to have them, but for the price jump up to that trim level I can continue to live without them.

I was told by a lady that was designing the Cummins engine for the 2019 model year it will be in the 2019 trucks. ZERO engine emissions. 100 year anniversary for Cummins and the 30 year anniversary for RAM/Cummins.

The engine will be a 6.7.

If the new engine emissions system does become a reality in the 5th generation, our 4th generations will be real valuable at trade in. (Sarcasm mode on full tilt). You can buy a truck that treats the exhaust downstream of the engine or you can buy a late model truck that uses yesterdays technology, overly complicated and outrageously expensive to repair systems that recirculate soot back through the engine. Hmmm, let me think that one over......

Over on the Duramax Forum they are discussing tuning the L5P. From what i gather it is looking impossible due to some very good encoding and such. I would never buy a truck before the deletes were available. Otherwise you could be stuck purchasing replacement emission components. So our fourth gens could actually be very valuable if the tuning can not be cracked in the future. Only time will tell but at some point it will be uncrackable and that is not a truck i want to own. I know i know. Never say never.

If the fifth generation does away with the issues more than a few are having with the 4th generation pollution crap, then there will a much lesser demand for deleting. I see the same arguments over and over again for deleting 4th generation trucks and that is our engines "eating" the exhaust. The vast majority of used truck buyers are not looking to spend $35,00 - $45,000 on a late model diesel truck and then spending several grand more to delete it.

Only costs $43k after the tax write off savings.... :) I know a lot of guys that love these loaded up trucks. Some live in $800k houses that are paid for....others are business owners where the truck is a tax write off. Everything in life is more expensive now than it was 20 years ago (except maybe electronics like TVs and computers) I complained about $400 a month rent when newly married. Now people rent for $ 2k. LOL.

Zero emissions and still won't be good enough for CA.....LOL.

It amazes me the money people have when it comes to expendables. Was just at a truck pull over the weekend, these guys were pulling in with blinged out Petes and KW tractors with matching enclosed trailers and rolling trucks out the back that are worth as much as my home.

Totally incredible!

Only difference I've seen is the radio. 2018 has car play. Not impressive, but it's there. I just bought a 2018 2500.

Mine is a Laramie, the 2018 sport package includes the longhorn grill. The 2017 longhorn and limited have this same grill. It isn't new.
