Competition Two Porsche Cayennes

A friend and I (Dodgeman01 for you guys on DTR as well) got into a little debate, and our buddy Wesly (Dodgeboy59td) included his two cents.

It was concerning EGT's while sled pulling... . Aaron like a genious was watching his guage sit on 1500* the whole time he was pulling last night, and more or less sounded like he got out of it for fear of messing up his truck.

He posted to me that I needed to watch out when I pull this Friday in Cythiana KY because I have more HP than him. I replied I had de-tuned (plate centered) since my dyno day because of EGT's and our buddy Wes had this to say.

Egts gauges, the best thing you can do during a pull is take it out! turn the fuel up as high as you can go and let it fly, your run down the track wont take over a minute and a minute at 1600 will not hurt anything, just think of mitchel and stacy exhaust temps, you know there hotter than hell, the only thing you dont want to do is get your exhaust temps up around the 1600 degree mark and hold it there for 10 minutes, turn your fuel up and and let it fly and when your done pulling let your temps cool before killing the truck and you will be ok. Seen to many run at 1600 forever and they still run fine, trust me, cover up the gauge! Wes

Now how many of you sled pullers agree with this? I am only pulling for fun cause I know Wes will be in the stock class and he'll kill me, but at the same time I want a respectable distance so I am considering sliding my plate back full forward so I can use all my HP/TQ I have. I'm installing a new rear u-joint tonight because if you saw my post a couple of days ago my straps came loose and once retightened I still have a HORRIBLE vibration at 45mph and 60mph.

Anyhow I want honest opinions on whether or not the EGT's will hurt just long enough to pull down the track? I say it will and part of me says leave my plate alone, but part of my wants to slide it and get those extra couple of feet if I can get outta the whole without hopping.

It's not like you have insane EDM injectors or a 'tuned' pump.....

You'll be fine... . worry about the drivetrain... . not the engine.

Getting rained on-again.

When pulling, it is wide open, or you may as well stay home.

It won't take more than 12 or 15 seconds. The pistons will never be that hot.

Bury that pyro.

Get a guage with recall, my digital would always show 1747. Wunner how far past that it went?

BTW Johnboy, did you notice he wanted to hear from me, even though you posted first?

Such is life as a back to back Thunder in Muncie Sled Pull Champion. :D

LMAO!

Yep, I noticed. And as usual you copy what I said first and get credit for it since your king. ;)

LMFAO!!

You had better leave your power where it is, until you get a clutch... :p

Here is my vast experience?!?

Speaking from weeks of experience (three pulls) you may not see maximum egt temps unless you intend to launch in a tall gear by slipping the sheet out of your STREET clutch. I don't slip my clutch at all but launch in a baby gear and thus have little wheel/ground speed depending on track, and don't see anywhere near hot egt temps and so so results. If you are pulling for fun then do just that.

Good Luck!!!

Its funny John even commented here, since he has never had enough fuel to get above 900 degrees anyway. . must have been listening to me... ... ..... :D

He didn't ask wether is street clutch would take it, he asked about egt! LOL:D

No I don't like my clutch I have now, and I'm am looking at either a SBC OFE 13" or SBC DD Street at the first of the year.

YOU BOYS HAVENT SEEN EGT'S TILL YOU SEE THIS!

If you want to see some EGT'S go to a NTPA tractor pull and watch the tractors with 4 turbo's pushing 250 psi. and about 1000-1500 cc of fuel, these boys suck down about 4 gallons of fuel by the end of the track. now tell me thats not a high egt when you run 4 gal. in 10 sec or less. you guys wine abuot 1700 the tractor I pit for last run he made the egt's hit 2913 on ML3 turbo. given that these tractors do blow the turbo's sky hig every now and then, thats what you get with that high of egt's. so if you want to see high egt's go to a NTPA tractor pull and observe EGT'S at there finest. BY the way the tractor i pit for out of 417 cu in we squeezd 783 hp and a wheel speed of around 85 mph. not to bad for a IH 1086. Mabey i should bring that to the strip and see what she can do.

P. S. Anyone ever thought of WATER INJECTION? it keeps the EGT'S way down. if your interested let my know ill tell you how to set it up.

I know I'd be interested in hearing about how you setup your water injection on the NTPA big dog tractors.

EGT's in excess of 1700°+ is fine and dandy for a race engine that nobody really bats an eyelash at if it lunches itself after a few hooks... .

Most of the pullers have to at least get a season out of an engine..... some may require more... . some may require less - it all depends on how big the wallet is.
