Well,

This is not officially a poll, but I would like to know how many others can drink #2 as well as my truck does. WHO has the worse all time mileage for a third gen truck.

Return trip home from Bowling Green, KY 600 miles it took me 2 1/4 tanks of fuel. I drove down empty on one tank at 80MPH=18 MPG, but not so with 10K 5th wheel Alpenlite in tow.

Odometer at now at 5600 miles after trip.

First Tank 9. 13 MPG

Second Tank 8. 40 MPG

About 18 PSI boost continuous at speed, and 30 PSI on any grade (Indiana?) or acceleration. Don't believe fuel to be winter grade, but who knows. At least the Cummins is getting broke in and now I have a good reason to drain axle fluids.

Hand calculated and recorded in log book.

Next time I will not pull in overdrive at 75 MPH, but it just seems like a waste not using this power.

Limbo, Limbo, How LOW can you go?

My 1993 2500 Cummins Auto did 6. 3 on one tank, going into a head wind in Oklahoma and Texas when the that truck was new.

My newer trucks have never been that low yet.

My all time worst was 9mpg pulling my 8. 5x20 enclosed car hauler... EMPTY... but that was into a 20MPH headwind and I was trying to maintain 70mph... pretty much like trying to drag a barn through a hurricane, aerodynamically speaking. Average for the trip was probably about 12mpg or so. I'm hoping the '05 does better than that.

Damn I thought I was the only one.

I get ~14mpg... 15 if I'm lucky on a combo of city/highway driving. I'm guessing running 70-75mph doesn't help... just soooo hard not to!

Mods to accomplish such bad milage

4. 5" sj, DD2's, 35" tires, JR #3 plate, 4" exhaust...

THIS IS BAAAD!!!

Weekly I pull a 30ft gooseneck round trip of around 140 miles to 200 miles depending where I am going. The elevation change is from 4500ft above sea level to anywhere between 7500 to 10,000 foot. Loaded with around 20,000lbs and on that pull i have been averaging around 8. 0 round trip with the worst coming in at right about 6. 8 on last trip up there. That was hand calculated full throttle all the way up due to terrible winds.

There is no BS in this post either.

My two cents on this million dollar question!!

Believe I got you all beat. I posted last summer about a run I made during a little hurricane we had here in Texas. My mileage was 5. 1 going into a 85 mph head wind with about 17k gross behind me. Mileage was great coming back though, somewhere over 20 mpg.

I would ???? a brick if I got 20 mpg. My 2002 4x2 dually 5 spd. gets about 16 empty and thats driving very conservatively. (65 max) It just won't do any better. I don't think this is terrible mileage but I was told to expect more from the Dodge Cummins Combo. I wonder what the Ford and Chevy guys are getting?

Couple of questions, what size tires are you running and how much air in your tires. You should be getting better mileage than that.

Thanks guys, you make me not feel so bad about drinking up fuel like that.

Looks like EB has got the trophy at this moment. Sorry, Gonzo 1066, you have a close second, but it was with a first gen ride.

The only reason I was so shocked at my 8. 4 MPG was that my 2001 Ram got a low of 13 towing Stock trailer at 80MPH and then I hit 11 MPG once with nothing but two weeks straight of snow plowing, only time I left a driveway was to buy more fuel.

14. 8 when it was very cold and I was short-tripping it to work and having to slog through more than a foot of unplowed snow for a week until they finally plowed our roads!

My quad has shown 19mpg empty running fast (80-85) and the trip computer shows 11-12mpg doing its regular towing of a 8000lb gooseneck that is loaded to 15K one way on daily 300 mile round trips. I am pretty dang happy with the Dodges. My '03 Durapooch recently showed 13mpg towing my empty flat car trailer 1200 miles across Nebraska and SD. The Durapooch has a lifetime average of 14 and 25k on the clock. My Dodges definately get much better milage under identical conditions. I have to say though, the ride and interior of my Chev are making up for it on my bi-monthly 1200 mile treks, it is by far, a more comfortable truck. Like I have always said, Dodge for work, Chev for play, Ford is in the middle, of course I still don't trust that new 6. 0L:rolleyes:

The tire size is 235/85r16. The pressure is about 70 psi.

The truck is a 5 speed with about 58000 miles on it.

The truck seem to run fine and shows no visable sign why the mileage is lower than others. I have had a little trouble with tire wear but I think Ive fixed that. It didnt change the mileage though at all.
