WOW!! That would be at least a 20+ year supply for us! We have a Lopi energy effecient wood stove that was installed in our house when it was being built. I built a fire in the stove early yeterday morning about 4 AM since there was a cold rain falling and a cold a north wind. The weenie dog joined me as I sat in front of the stove drinking my morning coffee, watching the fire, and enjoying the warmth. Nothing like a wood heater!

BTW, I cut, split, and stack off the ground my fire wood from diesased, dying, and/or storm damaged trees on our place. I let the wood "season" for at least a year before I burn it in the stove.

That pile under the green tarp will be burned and gone by spring. Sometimes we have to dig into the newer stuff to finish out the winter.

It really depends on the wife's schedule. If she is working 5 days a week the stove is only getting filled twice a day. If she has a spell where she is home for a week or two then it gets filled three times a day and that adds up faster than one would think.

We put a full tier of the new wood in first, then two tier of the seasoned stuff in front. If we do need it come spring the heat from it's being in where it is warm all winter has dried it nicely.

Still use 400 gallons of #2 fuel oil plus some propane per year in addition to the wood.

Wood heat just plain feels better when you are cold and sore.

Last year was our first year with our new stoves. one on each end of a long rancher. An insert in the fireplace and a free standing on the other end. Normally our propane bill was getting upwards of $4000 a season. Last year we only used maybe 100 gal total for the whole year. Need another year to break even then nothing but savings after that.

We are fortunate to have lots of wood around. I live next to 9 acre of twp owned woods that always has trees down or dead. I'm getting lazy though and just call my tree guy who drops off prime logs for free. I just buck, split and stack.

Generally speaking, insects live in hollow or rotten wood. When you split wood, you open up the cavities they live in. Split an ant filled piece of oak, and 2 days later there won't be an ant left in the pile.

A question
