I have been kicking around putting in an allisin 1000 in my 99 ram. I've not had the stock one fail yet but I'm soon to go over the gvw. The stock trans has some shifting problems. Not shifting from 1st to 2nd right ( free wheeling when I let up on the fuel or higher rpm's then most shifts). Shifting out of 2nd at to low of rpm ( will shift into 3rd below 20 mph under almost no pull) shift in and out of 3rd when pulling my fifth wheel at around 20 mph) Shifting in and out of overdrive around 45 mph.

Ive taken it to the dealer and they say its perfict on the computer and to a trans shop with no better results.

I have an Izusu with the allisin 1000 and the shift points are so much better.

Has anyone done one of these conversion that would have any input on pro or cons?

I don't get to spend a lot of time on this site but love it when I do, so my replies may come slow.

I run a TST, 4" pipes in my 2wd, air ride seats (bolstroms) on board air with self leveling air bages, but stock other than that.

I know this should bring some interesting comments, so I'll say thanks now!!

Not telling you what to do... but I'd think the interface with the computers might be challenging. Not to mention physical size, mounting etc. But by all means do-able.

Had you considered something like an ATS transmission built to the hilt to your spec? I'm not brand specific... but some of these folks make some pretty impressive claims of what their trannies will do. You could get lockup control, exhaust brake etc to help. Just a thought.

I've read a lot on this & other sites , there are a few guys that are doing the swap , standalone computers , you may want to get the computer out of that Isuzu just in case .
Last I saw the postings were about 40 pages , Gabe was the guy doing the work on this , on the DTR site .

Allison transmission - Dodge Diesel - Diesel Truck Resource Forums

Having the Allison already may make for a cost wise close , the stock dodge trans can be built to meet about the stock Allison [ but it can be built to more that the dodge , some say ] .
I talked to Gabe , he said that I drove to him the swap would cost about $7,500 to drive home , my other option is a Goerend , starting at about $3,250 , Goerend Transmission Incorporated
Which many would say is as good as any , but the best costumer service .

Just a quick note- The computer is a stand alone for the trans. the allisin will be able to be tanped int the nessary wires to get its info.

the ratios for the a-618 are

1st 2. 45 2nd 1. 45 3rd 1. 00 od . 69

allisin 1000 are

1st 3. 10 2nd 1. 81 3rd 1. 41 4th 1. 00 5th . 71 6th . 62

seems to be the right fit for towing and milage too.

a bit more info on the reasoning.

Gabe is getting the trans to work with TPS [ throttle position sensor ] only , this his main point , lots of research to do , so he is not giving this info out .
Your spelling kinda sucks , but I think I have it figured out , tap into ?
What eng was in front of the Allison ?

Just my opinion offered here: I realize the stock dodge transmission sucks the big one. For moderate hp (400-450) a valve body, torque converter upgrade should only cost you $ 1500-1800. and will hold up nicely. For decent hp upgrades in excess of 500 hp there are many options. I have a full billet Suncoast Transmission and it cost me a little over $5K I had the VB and Torque Converter already. This transmission will hold everything you throw at it. The Chevy guys who are running above 400 hp are all having transmission work done!!

As for the spelling , your right - farmer teaching you know, ya don't need to know all that much to help in the fields back in the 60's and the typing skills are not so good either.

For the size of eng ( not motor - not electric) 5. 9 24 valve. 1999

Go with a transmission and converter from DAVE GOEREND, you'll be very happy, and with alot less greif of doing the swap. Also a stock Allison is not the answer. Just my . 02 cents. Thanks Steve B.

Gabe didn't quote him $7500 for a stock Allison. I believe that number is for a Level 3 built transmission. S/O correct me if I'm wrong.
