Hiya peoples -

Anyone out there put an Allison 5-speed behind a 6BT and converted to 4x4 with either a 205 or Atlas?

This Summer I'm starting this big honkin project that basically includes merging my 85 crew cab dually and my 93 CTD, while at the same time upgrading the transmission and rear end, and converting to 4x4.

There are several posibilities with the transmission: Go with a 2nd gen core and have it rebuilt via DTT or ATS, etc, or go psudo-industrial and get an Allison or Eaton.

For the t-case I'm either going with the venerable 205 or going with an Atlas.

I already have a D60 dually front end ready to go.

Also, I'm Colorado Springs, ~7000' altitude, the rig will weigh in at ~7000lbs, and I'm curious about which gears to go with?

Any help out there in fabrication/conversion land?

Thanks amigos,

- Sam

You might give ATS in Denver a call. They always have a few rebuilt Allisons lying around. And I believe they have put an Allison in a Dodge, but it is probably easier and cheaper just to go with a full ATS Stage IV or V.

Sam,

My 93 sits at about 6k lbs and I am running 3. 54 gears... This is behind a Getrag and a 205... works pretty good but when I start climbing up to Loveland Pass I have a little bit of trouble speeding up the hill at 85 so I can only do about 70 to 75 depending on the section.

As far as the guys at ATS go they know a lot about conversions and a lot about what will give you the most bang for you buck for HP.....

Are you looking for and Auto or Manual to put behind the 6bt????
