Does anyone know what allison transmissions will work behind a 6BTA. I'm not interested in the fly by wire 1000 series.

Texas member Large Car installed a Allison along with a BrownLipe aux transmission in his 96 last year. Might try a search using his name.

If I remember correctly, the shop that helped with his conversion has several additional units ready to install.

The AT,MT, and HT series Allisons all have SAE standard housing mounts. These mounts are designated by size, such as SAE#1,SAE#2, etc. These are the same as the designations used on medium and heavy duty standard transmissions, and are a full round design.
The AT series is a 4 speed without lock up convertor. It would be found mostly in 1 1/2 or 2 ton trucks with either gasoline or small diesel engines.
The MT series can be had with 4 or 5 speeds and would be found mostly on mid range diesel engine trucks. These transmissions have lock up convertors and can handle a great deal of torque and weight. I once had a GMC Brigadeer tractor with a 6-71 Detroit that had a MT654CR Allison that was rated for 300 HP and 80,000 GVW. This is a rather large size transmission to fit into anything smaller than a class 6 or 7 truck.
The HT series is so large and heavy that it should not be considered for anything less than a class 8 truck.
Allison dealers have individual drawings for adapting each transmission to any of the popular engines. These drawings show every part needed for the installation, from housings and flywheels all the way to individual bolts and washers.
There should be some salvage trucks in wrecking yards with the Cummins B engine mated to the MT series.
One thing to remember is that these transmissions do not offer an overdrive, but they have a low enough 1st gear to allow the use of lower numerical axle ratios.
The newer MD series offer 6 forward gears with 2 overdrive ratios. These would be great to use, but they are totally electronic, requiring a seperate control system. This is usually found behind the seat and would probably not be too difficult to install. These MD transmissions would be more difficult to locate used and more expensive of course.
