This might have been posted earlier but I thought it might be worth the reading. Also reading an Allison Q&A, turning up the power on an Allison transmission could really screw-up the shifting. Since this transmission talks to the ECM to defuel at the shift points and if the engine is turned up, WELL THERE'S PROBLEMS! The ratings were not that impressive as I had thought.
THERE’S NO COMPARISON
There is simply no comparison between the Allison 1000 Series and the automotive automatics used by other truck chassis manufacturers. Accepting up to 375 horsepower and 545 pound feet of torque – the Allison 1000 Series offers maximum engine power ratings for diesel and gasoline-powered vehicles.
The Allison 1000 Series is rated at 19,850 pounds gross vehicle weight. Typically, automotive automatics are used in vehicles rated below 11,000 pounds GVW, although some truck manufacturers sell variant models stretched to 19,000 pounds.
Allison offers additional Series models rated up to 30,000 pounds GVW for Class 6 and 7 vehicles.
