Allison Transmission

Was the Allison Transmission offered as an option on the 89-93 Dodge with the Cummins? I have a friend who claims his has one and that it has different brakes also. Is there a # in the VIN that would tell which type of trani?

I would say no for one reason, and that is because it's not in any of the factory manuals (that I have seen). That said, it doesn't mean some one converted it over to the Allison transmission. Also all the vin decoding guides in the factory manual don't show a code for that type of transmission.

Thanks Alan, I was curious because like I said one of my friends claims that his came from the factory with it. I told him that when I bought my 97 there was no optional automatic that I knew of. Maybe it's one of these things like Ford owning Cummins:-{}



One of these days I'll pin him on it and look under the truck to see if I can find a tag with a # on it. But for now I'll let him believe what he wants.
