Looking at the max weight rating of my stock Michelin tires (from the sidewall stamp), I see each has 3195 lbs load carry capacity. If we were only concerned about load carry capacity of tires, it could not exceed 12,780 lbs in total.

Your load capacity for your rear axle, with your tires, is 6390lbs total. Dodge list your GAWR at 6200lbs for the rear axle. Weigh your rig, with your tow setup, and see what you are carrying on the rear axle. ;)

Well... That sounds like a good solution... :D :D

You got that right Rick, 700 pounds or more of water might make me need a DRW!!!

My use of this trailer is a little different than most. I tow it to Arizona in December, park it for 3-4 months while using the truck as daily transportation and then in April I tow it back to Minnesota where it is parked until the next December. Driving a DRW to shopping centers, parking in my garage etc. makes it the wrong truck for me. At home here in the summer we use a very light slide in camper for fishing while being able to easily tow our boat. I also use the truck for hunting and driving in four wheel drive on narrow forest roads which are often covered with snow and ice. There again a DRW is not that good off road so while my SRW is a compromise, with careful planning I'm able to get by without being overloaded. :)

A bit off subject, but you're a bit rare wuth the 4. 10s ... otherwise similar to my truck, towing a similar load. Happy with the gear choice? MPG w/ and w/o tow? Back on topic, 9872 lbs. on the truck, 11,750 lbs. on three trailer axles, never weighed the tongue or empty truck; assume I'm over GCWR quite nicely with my SRW. Should I be ashamed or feel guilty since all other weights are in compliance?

Question I have a friend who hot shots (CDL), weighed out with 14 round bales (1100lbs each) on a 30' gooseneck. Total weight, 30,430lbs Truck, trailer and load. Was he over loaded, 2004. 5 3500 Quad Cab DRW automatic Cummins 4x4?

Not according to the State trooper that pulled him over for speeding 65 in a 55. Truck is registered for 34,000lbs. Trooper weighed him gave him a speeding ticket and told him to have a nice day.

Not tring to dis-agree but I pull a load like this all the time with my ram 2500 and I don't feel in any way I'm overloading the truck. Cause with a full tank of fuel my truck is 8530lbs with my Blue Lacy dog in the back and me off with a GVW of 9000 I can't even go and get feed...

thanks now I'm totaly confused. .

Oops I apologize wasn't paying attention when I was reading, this ain't about legality its about manufactures ratings, please disregard. . oh and my opinion is if it will move it, it ain't overloaded. . jf

... ... ... ... ... so, by that logic (?), I could put a 5er hitch on the trunk of my Super Bee and wouldn't be overloaded? It would definitely move it, but I'm not sure the F70-14 bias plys would like it too much! :-laf

Does Dodge still state a payload capacity for these truck, I haven't looked but when the gen2 came out I remeber them bragging about there 3500 having a payload of 5298lbs. So does this not come into play anymore. Cause if what everyone is saying (I might be reading it wrong so please correct me if I am) . i. e. GVW 9000lbs my truck empty weighs 8500lbs does that mean I can only have 500lbs of extra weight in my truck. .

oh and how come my sig isn't showing up??

I totally agree with you DPelletier no matter what your truck will do never exceed what the tires will do (accept on those rare occasion when your buddies Ford P. S. brakes down and your stuck with his load)

Hey - what about the 5er?

CB -

Read thru all the posts - want to hear what brand, model

length of trlr you ordered!

How about a bit of "show and tell" (at least the tell part).

Sigs only show up on your first post on any thread. Your's is on reply #24.

Well, I thought I understood how it works, but mine just showed up here again. Maybe it's the 1st time for any page of replys.

I bought a Mobile Suites 36'CK3 5er. I traded in my 2004. 5 SRW 6spd, for a 2005 DRW Auto. The pin weight of the MS36 is just under 4000 pounds. This is a heavy trailer given we have some food in the fridge and several pairs of shoes for my lady. Since trading off my SRW I have towed to Mercedes Texas and am about to tow another 1500 miles into the Yucatan just south of Cancun. Average fuel mileage just over 11 mpg at a gross weight over 23000 pounds.

I am presently at an RV park where I see lots of heavy 5th wheel RV's, with typical tow vehicles like mine, almost all are duallys. Ford is the predominant brand. Chev next. Almost all are diesels. A few gas engine holdouts favoring the Ford V10.

My CTD is so quiet some do not recognize it as a diesel. Ford drivers love the sound of their still noisy diesel engines. Chev drivers are too snobbish to discuss anything cause they have endless confidence inspired by the Allison auto. Everybody asks me if I really expect to get to, and back, from Mexico without blowing my 'weak' auto or having to replace the fuel pump.

Of course I can... of course I can... of course I can...
