My roommate that is. He's been looking at diesel trucks now for as long as I have, and up until he met me, he was stuck on buying a Drof PSD. But, today we went to the local Dodge dealer, and there on the lot was a 1999 Sport 2500 QC, SWB, CTD, Auto, with 53700 on it. Dealer's price... $21K!!!

I about fell over when he said $21K, I figured they'd have it stickered at at least $25k. So, we drove it, and he really liked it from the left seat... which he's never drove a Dodge from before. I've never let anyone I go to school with touch my baby "Bullula" for fear of them hurting the girl. So, after we got done test driving the '99, I let him drive my baby back to our room, and holy crap was he impressed... I told him right off to bump the Comp up to 5x5, and to get on it, and I think he went something like :D:--) :--) :--) :D LOL. So, he's now taking his '97 Tahoe back to the dealer to do a "1 hour trade off" so we can go test drive it for an hour and see what she's about. It's an extraordinarily clean truck, and has never had any performance mods on it, as far as my inspections could tell (yes, I got funny looks from all the salesman standing around as I crawled on top of the engine to look at the pump-wire and the rest of it. LOL... bet they don't get that every day.

Couple of questions if you're still with me at this point in my story:

1. How does the emergency brake work on a '99? When I tried to set it, it set, but the pedal came back to the "unset" position, and it didn't feel like mine does, although it did set, and does work fine.

2. Did a Carfax check on it, and they showed 6 reports in their files... is it worth the $15 or whatever they charge to get the full report on this truck? Yes, he is very serious about buying it. What do ya'll think those 6 reports are? Maybe the reasoning for it being marked at $21k?

I tried to get the previous owners name, but they bought the truck from another dealership, so that's out.

Might have made myself a convert. :)

Thanks for any help. Sorry for the long post. Josh.

Have the dealer do the CarFax report for you. Most of them do it for free. It shows they have nothing to hide. If they won't, chances are they already checked it and it shows something they don't want you to see.

Other than that, just look it over real good. Fluid leaks or things like that.

Sounds like a fine deal to me.

Also, the e-brake is supposed to be that way, on the older trucks the pedal retracted once applied, not sure the reason behind it.

Update

Just got off the phone with roommate...

They "misquoted" the price before... actually want $26k for it... but they graciously dropped it down to $25k already due to their "mistake. " Also, they said only $10k for his Tahoe, which blue-books trade in for $17k, and he could sell outright for minimum of $20k, so needless to say, he's not driving the Dodge around right now.

Anyway, thanks for the info guys.

Josh.

Myu Dad had a '92 Dodge 350 5-speed The E-Brake, when set, would stay pushed to the floor, but when it was released, BAMM!!! It would pop up to the full off position. If there was ANY mud in the grooves of the pedal, they were in your face, or eyes.

The E-Brake pedal that comes back up to the top is a very welcome feature. No more mud in the face.

My $. 02

Ah yes... that sounds like a load of bs to me.

I think they need a little pressure to stick to their advertised price. Then again, if they're going to use dishonest sales practices, it's probably best to just pass them by.

I find it *very* unlikely that the "misquote" was an honest mistake.

.

Midnite,

I would have too, HOWEVER, they have two '99 CTD on the lot that are one VIN number apart. The other one was a LWB, with over 100K on it, hence the $21K price tag. Yes, my friend looked at the salesman's sheet after they told him that and verified it to be true. Anyway, they weren't wanting to deal, so it was for the better.

Josh.

I don't get it. Why so much$$$ I bought mine from a Dodge dealer in June 01, (see sig - it was bone stock except for newer shocks and F-stone 265's) it had 75k, it was advertised at 19,900, maked down 1k as I answered their internet ad (the dealer was in Yorktown, NY) and I rolled out with it for 18,200. Just checked KBB & NADA last week even with 107k it's still holding around high 18 - low 19?

I'd tell them to go pound sand! Apparently, since your roomie isn't driving it, he did - good for him.
