Hard to believe I've had my 99 almost 5 years now... It will be out of warranty in about a month. I've never done an oil analysis on this engine (so unfortunately no baseline), but wondered if it would be worth it to have one done before the warranty expires?

Thanks,

Without the baseline it might be a tough call on excessive wear, but the reports back usually make note of reading which are out of line.

Since our '99 truck had a 100K service contract on the drivetrain and the 100K warranty on the engine, I took it down to the local Cummins shop and had them put it on the dyno at 99500 miles. I figured that if what it was putting down in numbers deviated much from what it should be doing, I would check into the transmission or the engine for a problem. Well, it turns out there was a problem - - - a frozen wastegate on the turbo was causing the truck to de-fuel when the computer saw an over-boost condition. A re-man turbo assy was the last warrantied item replaced on that truck. For the $100 dyno bill, some serious change was saved.

For the cost of that oil analysis, I would take that step.

FWIW I dont think DC will do any work that may be in an oil analysis w/o a baseline, or bases on one oil analysis.

If youre planning on keeping it, I'd say go for it.

It's better to get a rough baseline late rather than never.
