I went out to this off road spot used mostly by jeeps, I was itchin to get my truck off road for once, and my friend just bought a 2000 Tundra and he wanted some too. So we were climbing these huge hills probably went up about 1000ft or so and my check gauges light came on! I looked over at the temp gauge and it was close to red, I got out and poped the hood and let it idle, the temp eventually dropped back down to normal after a few minutes. I have an Edge Comp (on setting 2) and Trans temp, fuel psi, boost, EGT gauges. All other readings were fine. The climb was always slow and boost never really went above 8 psi. Was it because of the Edge Comp? Should I have turned it off? It was pretty scary we were wayyy up the mountain and we werent exactly supposed to be up there :p Any thoughts?

Did your fan come on? You'd have heard it if it did. What was your coolant temp? Is your radiator clean and full? Put your truck info in your signature. That will help.

Fan was on and working, coolant is/was full, coolant temp was like I said, near red. Would put info in my sig, but havent figured that out yet, haha (PC Newb!)

My truck is a 98. 5 24V w/ 98500 miles, Auto trans, Leveling kit, Rancho 9000's, 33" BFG AT's. I think it has 4. 10, and some form of locker in rear. OH it has a 4" exhaust as well - Sorry bought it not even 2 months ago :p Got some learning to do, but I try.

Could be your thermostat. Or it could be that your radiator is plugged with oil and degris from the oil vapors that come off your engine blowby tube.

I agree with ROADWARRIOR, lots of failures with the early thermostats in 24 valve trucks. For the truck signature, click on "User control panel" at top of page, then click on "Edit profile". bg

If you haven't done it already, I would strongly suggest adding an extension to your crankcase breather tube. After you do this, pull your radiator and clean it. After two years, mine had an unbelievable buildup of dirt and oil on the radiator. Not a problem since extending the breather hose.

I think the key is AUTO as in transmission. Running around in stock fluid (slop) coupling drives a lot of the generated heat into your cooling system. I wonder what temps your trany fluid hit?
