Gravity fed?

You fellows all seem to be way ahead of my thinking, maybe I am a little (or maybe a lot:) ) behind. This whole thing about the pumps should be and probably is a very simple problem when it is figured out. For now I prefer to carry a spare pump to change myself if and when needed. I don't want to over complicate things and maybe make things worse. I put over 4000 miles on my truck, about a month ago, in about 7 days. No trouble at all. Fuel pressure guage a real comfort. Still only around 25000 miles on truck though. Thanks for your reply Chris. I don't think I would even need a pump if my truck had a gravity fed tank. I know if my tank was mounted that high I would take the pump out of the picture just to see.

Another thought, the more pressure or load on the pump the harder it will be on the pump. Seems to me we only need very little pressure as long as we have enough volume of fuel. The engine can't burn but so much fuel, as long as the supply is there pressure doesn't really matter. The main injector pump takes care of the high pressure needed at the injectors.

JE Moore--you're right about not needing a lift/transfer pump if your tank is higher than the VP44-thus a true gravity feed--I'm just gravity fed to my Aeromotive lift/transfer pump--and I agree that it's a great idea to carry a spare pump with you---chris
