Trying to eliminate OD/TCC eratic shifting issue on 2003. Wondering if I should install new diodes or just order oem alternator from Dodge dealer. Any advice would be appreciated.
I am going through ground wire and battery cables tomorrow to check for corrosion and bad spots. This problem is a pain, I have replaced all the transmission components associated with this problem and had transmission guys drive truck with scanner and tell me i don't have a transmission problem. Trying to resolve without doing the noise filter bandaid.

Thank you for reading!

It doesn't usually stop it from happening but could cause it to shift early etc. Also, trans temp has to be 60F before it will shift into OD. Have you changed out the solenoid and transducer in the trans? That is the first thing to do.

Check the second generation, 24 valve engine and transmission pages. There was a lot of write ups regarding erratic transmission and OD issues. Guys were talking about isolating the alternator wiring away from the other wiring in the shared under hood wiring loom. Some shielded the alternator wiring with grounded sheathing.

UPDATE: Replaced alternator with 180 amp from Nations Starter and Alternator in Cape Girardeau, MO. Changed and upgraded passenger side negative battery cable, alternator cable to passenger side positive terminal and added a ground from alternator mounting bolt to a bolt on core support. I went through and cleaned all other ground connections i could find. Trickle charged batteries while they were out of the truck. I pressed the accelerator to the floor slow and released slow before i started the engine for the first time, resetting the apps tps. I wish i wouldn't have, because now everything has been 97% perfect. It has had a handful of split second hiccups while in OD lockup. I really miss driving at highway speeds! Because of the "hiccups" I now think the tps is an issue. I'm going to give it some more time and see what happens.

Looks like you did everything except the first thing that needs done, replace the transducer and gov solenoid. The 3rd gens really don't have issues with noise in the system and when they do you start getting weird codes. 99% of the issues around OD are in the transmission, transducer is a major issue, OE gov solenoid problematic, and the VB wiring harness the other culprit. If you have not done so yet, a harness with solenoids plus the transducer and gov solenoid are a normal step.

The first things i did, DNJ gov solenoid housing and the new style transducer, OD/TCC solenoids with harness, 3 - 4 accumulator spring, new speed sensor, adjusted bands, checked line pressure on OD side. Had transmission guys drive with scanner, transmission doing what is supposed to do. I sort of wanted the transmission to be bad so i could have it built....I followed the advice from here and Casscade Transmission Parts.....Like i said time will tell.

That is definitely a different problem than most. Usually the PCM is demanding OD and it won't. A lot of these problems likely trace back to the JTEC controller Dodge used for the PCM, they and the wiring are susceptible to aging issues. The 03's are the only ones that used thme in that capacity and they always see to be the root of a lot of issues.

I had a similar problem on my truck last year. They put a filter capacitor across the apps and the problem went away.

I'm still trying to resolve my stumble. Installed the Geno's APPS signal electrical filter to grnd. A test run at Pwr Lvl 6 induced the 'stumble' to the point we are not leaving for Sunny South. Call to Jeff @ Banks yielded: "...some have found their new silicone vib damper the problem, then put OEM vib dam & per back on..." & "...less than a clean undamaged 'tone ring' will make for noisy signals from the Crank Sensor...". He didn't sound like their most technical rep.

Going in for biennial trans service 2/16 & will share this blog's submissions. Anyone think/know the Banks Economind tuner is the culprit? ECM?

Banks tuner could be cause. I would occasionally get a stumble when I ran a Diablo Predator. Never had a issue with Smarty JR or EFILive. Nothing to loose by backing out the tuner.

Well, without it we can't make the hills! Last Summer's return trip without Banks, was arduous indeed. Guess my motor is getting tired afterall?!?

p.s. HP fuel @ 25K psig & boost @ 31", so no issues there.

Time to get rid of the add-on box and get a tuner that loads into the ECU. Then you will have no problems with power, parts is another story. ;)
