That would be cool. I have always wondered how my system compares to others. I have thought about entering into one of the local Audio Sound Offs for fun but have never got around to it. The problem is my system wasn't designed to be a SPL monster. Ported enclosures are best for SPL but are tuned to a narrow band of frequencies. As a result, depending on which frequencies they are tuned to, they tend to be "tailored" to a specifice type or types of music. Sealed boxes have much flatter responses and replicate music closest to its "live" state but sacrifice Db's to the ported enclosure. But my taste for music range from Big Band, Jazz, and Classical to Rock, heavy metal, hip hop and my personal favorite, Country. I considered porting my enclosure but to keep the length of the port down to resonable size would have meant a port diameter of 2" which with the amount of air I would be moving the port would be "chuffing" horribly.
I must confess though, I would love to know what my SPL levels are.
Chipstien, Weekend on the Edge is that Edge Products sponsored event at their place in Ogden UT. Big get together this weekend (Friday night drags FREE, and Saturday Truck show and Dyno event).
Hope you like that MTX box... my experience with the 2ng gen MTX box was that it was way too thin of plastic to be a solid enclosure. It sounded like crap next to the JL Audio stealth box that I ended up getting instead, although the JL was twice the $$. Of coruse JL doesn't offer a 2x10" box so your choices are limited... hopefully MTX beefed that one up a little. Let us know how you like it when you get it installed. My bet is cali-600's single 12 will sound better, but we'll probably never get to listen back to back... either way, any bass is better than no bass!
Very nicely done. If I understand right, you built the underside unit from scratch, then covered it in fabrics to match the factory piece? I've been trying to figure out what I want to do in mine. I have the Infinity RAZ stereo, and I'm happy enough with it, it just has no bottom end. I have a lot of equipment laying around from my crazy days, and been thinking about how I could use it.
If you think 4-18's are a lot, my '84 S10 Blazer had 12-15" subs. Those were the days...
I got my sub enclosure off Ebay. Looks just like the one you built cali-600. I paid $120-$150 cant quite remember. Looks identical has all the studs on the bottom to bolt to factory brackets and threaded inserts for the fold down bracket. Measures . 88 cubic feet sealed. I put the item number in a previous post but not sure if he's making them any more.
