I tried something new and I think I like it , its easy to see and not in my way. I now monitor nine different functions or vitals of my Cummins :D

Lets see

Beside my OEM gauges I monitor

1) fuel psi before the filter

2) fuel pressure after the filter

3) EGT before the turbo

4) boost

5) airhorn temp-for my ramair system

6) differential temp

7) auxillary fuel level

8) air psi for compressor

9) transmission temp

What else do I need to monitor

I need mo gauges

cheers, Kevin

Pretty cool Kevin  . Here's another... coolant temp. On the block, behind the housing for the thermostat, is a 1/4NPT plug. Downsize to 1/8"NPT and put a sender there for coolant temp. Works well, lets you see how well the block heater did after plug in time.

You definitely need post intercooler air temp at the intake manifold, 0 - 200° works great.

Who's going to watch all those gauges while you're watching the road (I hope);)

Kevin, here you go, should hold all the conceivable gages you could want. You may have to give up your radio though.

Jim, I ordered one in special from Westach that reads from 30*-150*, and put the senser right in the airhorn next to my boost tap.

My ultimate goal with this is to maintain 90* as much as possible , I will finish soon with my ramair project and will be able to control the cool air inlet at what ever rate I need to meet those temps, I do know that in the summer I will run it wide open unless it rains and I have already proven that daily driving in the hot months that the best I can do is 20* over ambient temps. A 100* day will net 120* at the horn... ... ... . still not bad. And in the winter with the ramair closed it sucks underhood air and once again I can only get 20* over ambient temps.

cheers, Kevin

Kevin, I took you idea and I'm going to add it to my truck to get some more air under the hood for the AFE to intake, I want to monitor air temps in several places but 150 degrees will never make it, it would in the hat though. The main reason I want more air under the hood is for racing as I don't pull anything.

Trying to make it back up to you country this fall! Sure like your town on the river, passed through it going to cody!

Jim,

I dont know if you have ever saw my other threads on my prototype Ramair setup, here is a pic of the induction tubes for the fresh cool air, also I am working on finishing it now with a scoop like ontop of a dragster motor with a butterfly plate in it for controling the air inlet to the filter, I have a fancy pto style cable that will run the butterfly plate from the cab ... ... ... ..... now this is where I need the air temp gauge at the horn so I can adjust the inlet from there, Last summer I had this on too and I did drop my airhorn temps while towing on a 6-7%grade from 140* down to 120* and this was with an ambient of 92*. In the cooler months I can simply close the butterfly plate and suck the warm air from underhood. I am impressed with what I have so far and am looking foward to finishing it. My ploy is ecinomics as 90* combustion air is proven to be the ultimate temp for complete combustion and the side bennefit is lower overall EGT's, I expect my AFE conical filter any day!!!

cheers, Kevin
