Alternatives to Alcoa MT Classic Wheels

I had decided on using the forged Alcoa Mickey Thompson Classics in 16 X 8 on my '97 2500 and either the Interco TRXUS 285's with the 10 ply sidewall or go extreme with 315's of some sort. Now the Alcoa MT Classics are in short supply as Alcoa no longer makes them and Mickey Thompson is out of stock.



The question is, do I look high and low for someone with a few remaining in stock and buy them now, putting off much needed HorsePower gains, or does anyone out there have some alternative FORGED wheel suggestions? I will add the Skyjacker leveling kit to the front, making a somewhat larger tire wheel combination a possibility.



What's a dieselhead to do?

Here is a site that shows some different rims. I have the 058 model rims on my truck. I have had this set for 8 years now. I don't have any complaints about them. When I bought my set they were $300 under Alcoa's.

You can still buy Alcoa wheels. Just not under the MT name. They're great wheels(might be biased since I worked there )... but you will be surprised at how cheap they are... and they're forgings too, instead of the garbage castings.

I like the Alcoas, but would like to go to an 8 inch wide or wider wheel and they only go to 7 inch in the Alcoa brand wheel in the Dodge hub pattern. The Mickey Thompson's made by Alcoa are 8 inches wide and are the same strong Alcoa forgings.



I have 6. 5 inch wheels now, making the desired tires a little unwieldy. Forged wheels would be a better match for the Interco 10 ply TRXUS tires in terms of weight capacity and with the 16 X 8's, I could go as wide as the 315's.



If only Alcoa would continue the line in their own name.



Philip, I like the 058's, too; they were my first choice until I found out the MT Classics were forged by Alcoa. I guess they may become my first choice again.

I have the Mickey Thompson Classic II wheels. They are still available. They say they are still manufacturing them. The Classic II wheels are NOT forged from I have heard, but the do have a fairly high weight rating. I pay about $125 for them at Discount Tire.

I checked out the Challengers and they are indeed available and at a reasonable price. I prefer the styling of the Classics, but function is more of a concern, not to mention availability; I think they are starting to grow on me already.



Assuming continuing availability of the forged Challengers, I think I can go forward with horsepower and buy the wheels and tires later. Besides, the South Bend 13-1. 25 OFE showed up today!
