Fuel system issue with lift pump

2019 Ram 3500 HO issues, P0299 code

Went for a test drive yesterday and an old repair to Battery wire where it connect to terminal on alternator failed. Problem is wire is now too short. I would like to run a new slightly heavier gauge wire from Alt bat terminal to fuse terminal in main relay box following harness.
My question is. The molded connector that mounts to alternator with the field,Ground and Bat wires in it.
Does it serve any purpose other than to correctly connect all wire to alternator in proper spots.
My guess is that is its sole purpose.

Truck in question is a 96 3500 Diesel.
Thanks. Kim

You should be able to pull the connector out of the plastic housing and do some surgery and crimp larger wire on it or solder it.

I thought wire would pull out. Tried and a big nope. Piece sticking out was discolored a bit from the bad connection. So I decided to bypass it and run a new wire from Alt Bat terminal to Relay/Fuse box with a slightly heavier gauge. Properly crimped ends, Good quality lugs and some dielectric grease. Tidied it all up with zap straps and its charging now.
