just this morning i noticed that the truck cranked over slower than normal & the battery volts were low. tinkering around under the hood i discovered a thick black wire coming from the alternator that was not connected to anything, and it looked like it had been connected to a "ground"?, somewhere along the way. does anyone know what it is and where it connects to?

thanx

Grounds

I do not know exactly where your wire goes to, but if you think you have a "ground" related charging problem you can always connect your alternator ground wire directly to the battery negative cable. Another method is to just run a ground jumper wire from the Alternator case directly to the Batt. neg. terminal. This will never, ever hurt anything and is very commonly found on race cars, in fact many of us directly ground the ignition distributor right to the battery negative terminal. Redundent grounds are always a good thing!!
