If it makes you sleep better out on the trail. I guess it would depend how far of the trail you are and the need you put the alternator under while out there. The main wear item is the brushes, if you're going to have one, might as well have both!

@Iron Duke II , you probably have already observed this, but just in case, the regulator does not work with Bosch alternators.
