So tell me what you think do I need a new Alternator.

My alternator is very hot to the touch,

it smells very hot.

volt meter in the dash says about 9 volts. but will slowly creep up after a long time running. not its normal program. it usally will get to 14 volts very quick

I have new Optmia red tops.

I have taken the grid heater power wire off the battery this morning that should take the grid heaters out of the Loop

Still gets hot after running for a few mins.

this is the original Alternator.

I am working 14 to 16 hours aday in portland and need quick advice.

is it time for a new Alternator???

Thanks in advance.

Hey Chris,

Just replaced mine on my 99 under similar circumstances. My was all over the place when we put it on the meter.

Give Rip or Bill at Source Auto (in Clackamas) a call 503-654-9004. They are completely honest and will help you diagnose and if necessary replace your alternator.
