A friend with a 1990 is having problems.

After start up for about 2 minutes.

He has the following troubles.

1. Wait to start light comes on and off.

2. Alternator is not charging.

3. Water in fuel ligtht is coming on and off.

Any help would be appreciated.

He also states that the relays for the grid heater have been changed.

I had a fusible link go this summer, it took out the computer which handles the voltage regulation and the heater grids (plus other things like the speedo and tach. I don't know if the water in fuel light is in there too. ) They seem to be a common problem and are relatively easy to check. The wiring diagram in my manual was my biggest help in fixing my problem.

Check the dash grounds. On my 93 they are to the right of the steering column mounted on the steel support brace behind the plastic dash.

Also check the body ground off the negative battery terminal. That small wire is bolted to the radiator support. But there is paint under the terminal itself. Cleaning this connection has stopped many of our members weird electrical gremlins.
