1993 Dodge turbodiesel. Alternator not charging battery, no voltage on either blue or white #18 wires in bundle at alternator. Alternator tested good at local auto parts store. Any suggestions? Smitty

Replace the auto shutdown relay. It is located on the left inner wheel well. It is the one closest to the battery.

Do you have a tach installed???

Check the wiring and plug for the crankshaft sensor, also. This is the round plug in front of the front valve cover and the wires that go vetically down to the balancer area. If you get no reading from this sensor, the computer doesn't know the engine is running.

You didn't mention milege but being a 93, it could have enough miles to have worn out the brushes in the alternator. The alternator is very substantial but can give small problems. Most derive from outside sources that relate to the regullator which is in the computer. My 93 required brushes at about 600k.

Check wire-plug connection

Smitty,
No expert here at all but I have seen other posts here with similar problem (not sure about same model, year, motor, etc )and apparently the wire insulation was hiding a break in one of the wires coming off the Alternator plug. Not visible to the eye at all because it was covered by the insulation and OEM wire loom. Run a continuity check with a simple volt/ohm meter on the wires with the plug out of the alternator. Wiggle the wires with your probes clipped on each end. Set the meter on ohm resistance. If the needle stays over it is not the problem... if it drops back to zero while moving those wires... BINGO! Might just be that simple. Good luck to you sir. Also, welcome aboard!:)
